Not sure where to post this but hope this is the right area...

I have a Lenovo Laptop with Display Port and I have a converter from DP to DVi and I have a converter from DVi to HDMI.

My question is will I still get a sound if I use...

DP ---> DVI ---> HDMI using converters.

I know DVi doesnt carry audio however, with my Computer with ATi 9670 or most (9000 series) comes with the converter from DVi to HDMI and there is audio.

So my question is will this work?

I know there is a DP to HDMI converter but if I don't have to buy it then I wont.

I know its not the best to have multiple converters, I'm sure there will be loss of signal but I am wondering if it will work...

Display ports do not carry sound to the best of my knowledge. None of your converters will remedy this.

DisplayPort carries audio.

But your adapter arrangement is highly unlikely to work.

The ATI *4670* (9000 is nVidia's numbering, 9000 series ATI is about 3 years extinct) has a proprietary DVI connector which, coupled with their proprietary ATI DVI-HDMI adapter, will carry sound. I highly doubt your DP/DVI adapter is the ATI proprietary version, meaning it won't pass audio - even if couple it with the DVI/HDMI from your 4670.

You need a full-spec DP/HDMI adapter.

Sorry for bumping this but I didn't see any other threads in this subforum about Display Port. I have a Dell laptop with Displayport. It has a docking port at the office which outputs to a DVI LCD monitor. But at home, I would like to hook it up to my HDTV using HDMI.

I was reading that it's not as easy to go from Display port to HDMI as it is for DVI to HDMI... Is there a passive adapter method to do this or do I need another notebook dock from Dell?

Theoretically, if you just need video, it should work fine. But why not just get a display-port to HDMI adapter in the first place?

I have a display-port to DVI adapter and a DVI-HDMI cable and it works just fine.
