View Full Version : Refurbished Projectors TMXCowboy 05-20-09, 08:09 PM Is there anything wrong with buying them? streetcredit 05-20-09, 08:52 PM I purchased one in Canada....no problems so far..Optoma hd65 BuffaloJim 05-20-09, 09:34 PM I don't think I've ever had any problems with refurbished electronics. In fact, I've been extremely happy with refurbished products. Now having said that, projectors might be another story. The one thing I'd worry about is the lamp. Since it's the major cost item of a projector, a bad one would ruin your purchase. Jim nomad139 05-20-09, 10:23 PM I completely agree with Jim. Very happy with the refurb electronics I've bought, but I knew that I took a chance on buying something other than a new PJ. It was a calculated risk, based on the budget I had available to me (along with the fact that the PJ I bought was one of the few that could fit with my low ceiling). You need to know that you are taking a risk with any refurb -- that risk is lower if you are buying directly from the manufacturer, as Epson, for example, sells with an excellent warranty on their refurb products. wubanga252 05-21-09, 12:50 AM I wish I could say the same thing. I bought an referb Optoma HD70 4 months ago on ebay and 4 weeks ago I got a fan failure message and it doesn't work for longer than 15 minutes now:( It is honestly the most frustrating/heartbreaking thing that I have ever gone through in terms of an electronic purchase, or any purchase I have ever made for that matter. Now this may be just an issue that I have to deal with but I would be careful. computerpro3 05-21-09, 02:27 AM bought a refurb Optoma HD65 from Canada (I'm in the US). Had a friend pick it up and ship it to me to save $150. Turns out it's incompatible with YCbCr and I'm stuck with a handicapped projector. sappy124 05-21-09, 03:04 AM bought a refurb Optoma HD65 from Canada (I'm in the US). Had a friend pick it up and ship it to me to save $150. Turns out it's incompatible with YCbCr and I'm stuck with a handicapped projector. That's no fault of the projector being refurbed. I usually have far fewer problems with used/refurbed electronics than I do new electronics. Some one else lets the smoke out so I get a problem free piece of equipment :D eightninesuited 05-21-09, 03:24 AM I would buy almost anything refurbished - except a projector. matt314159 05-21-09, 03:47 AM Bought a refurb Optoma (EW1610) and have been happy with it. rboster 05-21-09, 08:52 AM Is there anything wrong with buying them? I would recommend buying a mack or another reilable companie's extended warranty when buying a refurb. Some companies refurbs are units sent in for firmware updates (ie BenQ), while others are repaired machines, overstock, reconditioned etc etc. IMO, no different then buying a used car...know who you are buying from Jerrym303 05-21-09, 11:18 AM I am very happy with my Marantz VP8600 refurb. I bought it with a 1 year Marantz warranty and extended that to 5 years through. Would nto bayany pj without a warranty. penticton102 05-21-09, 07:47 PM i bought a refurb 4805 5 years ago and its still going strong, no complants........ |
