Just got our new receiver and TV.

We're trying to make it so that the DVD Recorder sees 16:9 signal from the Receiver and the TV to see 16:9 ratio from the Recorder but all the TV sees is coverting it to 4:3.

Our Equipment,
Bell 6131
Pioneer DVR-520H
Sharp Aquos LC52E77U

Connected with S Video and audio from Receiver to DVD Recorder and Component and Audio to TV

Thanks,
Tim

Some STBs only output 4:3 letterbox from any output other than component or HDMI/DVI. What happens if you output the S-video directly to your TV and eliminate your DVDR? Your TV should be set to Full or equivalent setting.
If your STB doesn't output WS over S-video then your only option would be a component to S-video converter, look for the thread in this forum, it should be in the first few pages.

It could be the case actually, but we'll probably pick up a HDMI cable for an alternative route anyways for the times when we don't use the DVD Recorder and want to watch some HD or something.

Thanks for your help :)

The important thing to realize is that you want to get anamorphic output from your Bell STB to the recorder, i.e., picture filling the frame with no black bars on any side. That will give you the best possible recording quality.

It's all up to the STB - the recorder just records the frame it gets from the STB. It's only on playback you have options between the recorder and the TV to change the aspect ratio, stretch, add black bars etc.. Most STBs can give you anamorphic output on the S-Video connector, but it may need a combination of non-intuitive settings. You should do a search on "anamorphic output" for your Bell STB model to get specific advice.
