got the speakers, projector, player, receiver. now just need to upgrade sub.

speakers are def techs. bp2006, clr 2300 and bpx2 surrounds

room is has cathedral ceilings that max out at 10' peak, down to 8'.

its 15' long, and 30' wide.. it also opens thru a door in the rear to kitchen.

right now i run a velodyne vrp-1200 sub with the speakers. its big but not exactly deep.

i am leaning towards an svs pb10 or pb12. my questions

1. will the difference be that dramatic between the vrp1200 and the svs

2. my best friend just got a velodyne spl-1000 and it is pretty insane (compared to what i have now) should i just save a little more for one of those, or is the svs comparable.?? his sound is what i am looking for out of a subwoofer..

thanks for any advice..

First thing I would try to do it to talk your friend into letting you borrow his SPL. See how a 10" will do in your room. If nothing else, it will give you a good reference point. At around 4000cf, a 10" will be limited. I too liked the SPL-1200, but at the time I was buying, they cost a lot more than they do now. It was over my budget.

If you go with the SVS, I would skip right to one of the 12" models. The Plus if in your budget. You would be looking at a bigger sub than the Velo.

1. Yes especially in low frequency extension and also total ouput.

2. The PB12 NSD will trounce the little spl-1000 again in low frequency response and output.

I would suggest borrowing it from your friend and seeing how it preforms in your system with various types of material to help you decide your needs. It won't preform the same in your system as it does your friends. Every room and setup is different. It might be worse or it might be better but it won't the same. That's a pretty big area to fill and imo the smaller velo isn't going to do it.
