My bro in law has two velodyne SPLR1500 subs (1000watts RMS, 2000 dynamic) and the bass that he has coming from them is unreal, even more impressive that they're only 8"!

This line is discontinued and is now known as the Mini-Vee line. They retail for about $1100CDN and its an 8"! Im not wanting to spend anything close to that.

He lives in a huge and spacey 3 story house and it feels like a club in his basement lol. He has no problem rocking his house.

I would like to have something similarly as good - obviously I cant afford 1000 watt RMS subs but I want something that will be comparable.

Im really considering a SVS PB10-NSD that everyone on here keeps raving about. Will this sub stack up well to the Mini Vee V's?

I went to an etailer the other day and saw the SPL subs were not available. According to the Velo site, they are still available. The SPL-II series is discontinued. If there is a replacement, it would be the Optimum series.

Now, you are comparing dual 15" sealed subs to a single 10" ported sub. Not exactly an apples-to-apples. The best thing you can do is to give us your absolute maximum budget for a delivered product. Since you are aiming high with a limited budget, make sure you take your budget to where it's painful, but doable. Then you can get reasonable recommendations to get the most bang for your buck and as close to your brother's performance as possible. Also describe your room (size in cubic feet or meters, open or closed), your listening materials and levels.

The velodyne SPL line is single subs and at 8". From what I was told, these are discontinued cause my bro in law bought them on clearance. I spoke with a rep from velodyne last week and he said the mini vee line is the one that replaced them. The SPL line and mini vee lines are dead on similar specs wise.

If your BIL has two of the SPL-1500 they have 15"woofers, not eights. Check to make sure what model number he has.

The SPLR1500 is HUGE in comparison to the little MiniVees and performance dictates the same. Model numbers are getting confused somewhere. There is no way the MiniVee line is the replacement for the SPL line. Double check what your bro has and post back.

The Optimum goes to 12", has DSP like the SPL, has a remote like the SPL, has a 7 bang built in EQ versus the SPL's 6 band, and has 1200 watts versus the SPLs 1000 watts. But all this is irrelevant to your situation.

What are you being quoted for the Mini Vee? What about my other questions?

Edit: Your brother-in-law has either the SPL-1500R (15" driver) or the SPL-800R (8" driver). Which is it?

Ok my bad - I confirmed the model with my BIL and it is the SPL1500.

HOLY DUAL 15" DRIVERS, DDDDAMN! AND HE'S GOT 2 OF THEM.

Now it makes more sense! I thought for that amount of bass and going as low as 20hz that an 8" just isn't possible!

So now that he has dual 15" drivers, I don't think the SVS-PB10 would be any contest lol.
