Has anyone used a subwoofer with the Kuro PRO-111FD using the subwoofer outlet sans receiver. Until I have the financial resources to get a HTS I'm leaning towards using a subwoofer with the Elite and was wondering if anyone could give me some ideas, suggestions...point me towards some products. Budget $300. Thanks!
I looked at the manual and it says very little about the sub out other than you don't need it if you are connecting to a receiver. It doesn't say if there are any controls or if the output is full range or low passed. You will probably need a sub with a built in crossover or get a receiver with bass management and use the optical optput.

I use the 151fd sub out into the lfe sub in on the subwoofer. I run the volume of the sub around 20, and then it changes with the tv's volume. I am using a DD18 that has been eq'd to match the tv, and room.
Look for a sub with lfe input, as without a reciever, it will not sound good off the tv speaker rca outputs.
I am etremely happy with the sound from the elite in 2.1, it puts some home systems to shame. It is missing a bit of mid bass, but the bottom, mid, and top is sweet.
300 bones is going to get you a cheap sub. So your results need to be put into perspective for that price. 10" with lfe is likely best for you.

I searched the manual for 'subwoofer' and only found where to connect. Is the signal low passed or full range? Without any obvious settings on the TV, I assume you had to use all the settings on the DD.

The subwoofer out is an lfe channel. It sends a variable output based on tv volume. It is 80hz and under channel. I am not using the subs crossover. With movies only low sound effects come through the lfe, so it is not directional at all. I tried using the subs crossover, and I was getting too much main channel information on the sub. Even with the subs filter at 80 hz, I was getting some directional information from the sub. Maybe the slope was not steep enough.
Without a reciever, it was night and day. For now the lfe blows the other connection out of the water. Likely with a 5.1 and a reciever the reciever setup to sub will be the best choice.

Does anyone here know if there exists a subwoofer that matches with the Pioneer PRO-111FD stylistically? You know, sharp lines/corners, all black, maybe glossy?
