I recently purchased a new Vizio sv420XVT1A, I have it hooked up to my cable box (Motorola from Cox). On some channels, mostly non HD channels we have noticed what appears to be a white jittery line across the top of the screen.

Is this being caused by the signal being upconverted ? or by a bad HDMI cable ?

I have attached a couple of pictures, not sure how well they show what I am seeing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

David

NO, nothing like that. It's just in the TV broadcast. IT's not uncommon to see junk at the fringes of the image, particularly at the top. Your display is probably not overscanning at all, so you're just seeing everything right out to the very edges of the image. In the analog days the first bunches of scanlines weren't real picture, and contained things like closed caption code and other stuff in there as well, sometimes in the first few active picture lines as well. And with TV there is a huge margin of error at the edges that in the past was assumed to be overscanned a good deal. You're just seeing some of that junk as all. It most likely is not at all a system problem in any way, unless this is present on everything you watch, then all you're seeing is what the channel is broadcasting. If it bothers you, turn overscan on.

David You need to add more overscan to the image, simple!
