Right now I have 4 speakers that are the same and they sound great for multichannel audio. If I swap the L/R speakers for the same series of speaker but they are floorstanders with dual 8" and a 5" midrange instead of the 6.5" midrange I have now, how much will that change the multichannel music?

Will it be much worse or will the fact they are the same model speakers make it sound close enough to not be noticed? I want to change the front two speakers for the 2 channel audio, and I don't have room for 4 floorstanders.

Hope this is OK to post here.

I think that is a valid question that only has one answer; try it and see.
No one would presume to know what you like, and in the end that's all
that matters. :)

I'm quite sure there exist many combinations of speakers out there, I know
I've had a few over the years.

Since you say 4 speakers, I assume you do not have a center? I find it useful to have as closely matched speakers as possible across the front (LCR) but not so important in the rear as long as they are tonally similar.

Hello,
I agree with ca1ore about the surrounds. If the four identical are not as good as the speakers you are contemplating replacing, I would rather start with the best speakers you can afford even at the cost of timbre matching. Then again, two channel listening is still important to me.
