Please help me with a subwoofer recommendation. My basement playroom is "L" shaped and about 430 sq. feet. Attached is a diagram. My budget is about $500. Nearly 100% will be for movies and TV. Appearance, size and time of delivery are not a concern to me. Also, where should I place the sub? Thanks for any recommendations and advice.:)

First my plug for diy...you can build a subwoofer that will outperform anything in your price range for that cash. Since size is not a concern you should really look at building one. You will be glad when you do.
If not building, you need a good bit of woofage for that size room. $500 may be tight, but you can find some from elemental designs and svs for that price I believe. The outlaw subs are pretty nice too. Yeah, you should build one. I built a large enclosure housing an 18" driver tuned to a low 15 hz and have 2000+ watts backing it. Total cost for me was about $525. For your money commercially will get you maybe a 12" driver with 300-500 watts.

I'll second the recommendation on the DIY. I sell THE most beastly commercial subs you can buy (see the classifieds if you have a bigger budget, see the post about Danley Monster subs if you have a REALLY Big budget) and for $500, there really isn't anything out there which will fill that size space.

Thanks, but I'm not a DIY'er. I'm looking at a Nady PSW-18A 1200W 18" which is a little over my $500 budget, or a pair of Polk Audio PSW505B 12" for about the same price. Any thoughts on those or other recommendations?

The Nady will easily fill the space with bass, but as is typical for most pro-sub designs, it's high tuning point will not get you very deep bass.
