Alright, well I placed an order for my samsung pn50b450 and to my great dismay I read that it was stated as 1024x768 resolution by the manufacturer?

I called the tech representative, who did not seem knowledgeable at all, about whether this tv was not properly labeled as the supposed 1365 x 768 and she told me that it is indeed 1024 x 768. I am still skeptical about her knowledge because she did not seem to know anything about TV's at all.

I did a lot of research about my purchase and I am pretty set at purchasing this tv. It was within my price range, is a good size, and has the positive features of a plasma tv. I went back and forth about getting a plasma, or lcd, or LED tv, but in the end I decided on this one because it was pretty cheap, nice looking, aesthetically more pleasing than the panasonics when off, and looks good. I was looking at getting the 50 inch g10 except that it was about $500 more for a slightly better tv, and from viewing at 8 feet away, I've been told that the difference between 720p and 1080p is not able to be seen by regular human eyes.

The question I am asking you plasma gurus is if the resolution is really 1024x768 (Which I am almost 99% sure it isn't because that is a 4:3 ratio) for this 50 inch tv or if it is 1365 x 768. It is strange because on BB.com it is stated in the tech specs as 1365x768 but in the spec sheet on samsung.com it states 1024 x 768.

If it is 1024 x 768 I have to cancel my order asap. An immediate response is GREATLY appreciated. Thank you all!

Yup... She does not know. ;)

That's a mistake.

THERE IS NO 50" Plasma with 1024x768 of resolution.

That sure says a lot about samsung reps doesn't it?

Well, it is a 1365 x 768 resolution then?

Oh, and thanks for your reply

It's usually 1365/66 x 768.

The 1024x768 resolution is used on 42" Plasmas (They have non-square pixels to make them widescreen).

Oh, and thanks for your reply

You're Welcome. :)

Just wondering, why are 42" plasmas 1024x768 with rectangular pixels?

It became standard during the unfortunate convergene of manufacturers' desires to market a more cinema-like display and their negligence to sufficiently upgrade manufacturing methods to do so. By the time 50" displays became popular, they got it right, but consumers are still willing to buy the 42" sets and see past/forgive the crappiness of their 4:3 resolution, so there's no real reason for them to change. Most people can't even tell the difference, or they're not particular enough about image quality to recognize that the pixels are bloated sideways.

I don't know... Samsung's site and everywhere else list the 50" as a 1024x768 panel...

Well, for the third time in this thread, it's 136x*768. My brother owns one so I can confirm.
