That is, I need a solution that doesn't require me to buy a new sub at the moment (I'll do it eventually for sure, just can't do it now $$$).
I decided to by my first component home theatre system after picking up a PS3 (my existing 6 year old HTIB receiver, wasn't going to cut it tech wise). I bought Sony's 920 as my receiver. I going to be upgrading my HTIB's speakers starting with the front 3 and then the rest later on. I get my receiver in yesterday and go to hook up the existing HTIB sub only to hit a snag. It only accepts bare speaker wire yet the receiver has a plug for the sub. How am I going to get this sucker hooked up?

Buy a monoblock amp, run the preout in to the sep amp, then wire the sub to it.

Your screwed... :)
This is typical of HTIB junk. It is a passive sub. Meaning it needs an amp to drive it. You can buy a mono amp as suggested, but you might as well go
get yourself a real sub.
Search these threads. There are some pretty godd subs for under $ 250.
Have fun.

Yeah, I don't think I want to go through the hassle of patch work only to have to re-spend money down the line. I just have to convince myself not to buy that upgraded sub now, and just settle for something less.

Have fun.As an example, you can get a 12" BIC H-100 from overstock.com for $262 shipped. The BIC F-12 and Premier Acoustic PA-120 are also popular right now.
