HI. I am planning to get a sub and was wondering which one would be a better fit: the REL T2 or the Velodyne DEQ-12R. I plan to use it with Mordaunt Short Avant speakers, 908i fronts and 905i (center) plus 2 in ceiling surround. I plan to use the Marantz SR6003 AV receiver to power them. Plan to use it for 50 - 50 TV and music.
The length of the room is about 35 ft; 12 ft wide with the TV at one end, viewing from about 15 ft (open space behind the couch, hence the in ceiling speakers). Budget is around $700.
Appreciate any views you all may have. Or if you can point me to reviews of the two subs would also be useful. Thanks.

For a room that size, something more powerful would be my suggestion. Your space is very large and neither sub you mentioned goes very deep.
What is your absolute top price, and do you care about response below 25 Hz?

While the room is large, the couch facing the TV is going to be about 15 ft away. And we plan to listen to music and watch movies from there. So I don't need the sound to fill the whole room but the space near the TV. Never owned a sub before so am not sure I can reply to the 25 Hz. I could go up to about $850 if it makes a huge difference in sound.
Thanks.

The thing is, the sound does not stop at your listening position. The bass from the sub will travel the length, width and hight of the entire room.
Do you need something that is small and attractive, say, for spousal acceptance, or can you deal with a big black box?
If you never play DVDs through your system, you can get something that does not go as deep, and may cost less. But many DVDs have very deep bass that people tend to get to like.
Will you be using the sub with DVDs?

Yes I will be using the sub with DVDs. Of course the spousal element is there but it would depend on how big a black box we are talking about.
Please suggest some alternatives to consider. However, in the event I have to choose between the two I started with (REL T2 vs Velodyne DEQ-12R is there any strong preference for either one?
Thanks
