View Full Version : Can anyone tell me how the Velodyne DLS3750R stacks up against HSU STF-2
Anubisrocks 05-27-09, 04:53 PM After further research I am down to the final two subs that may work for me. Both are out of my budget range, one by $80 and on by $120. Yes, I wanted to get a sub sooner, but will have to save up for about 3 to 5 more months, because I just don't see anyway around that for something half way decent. (I just hate the thought of spending over $300 on something like a sub, but I see that I have no choice).
I'm looking at the Velodyne DLS3750R and the HSU STF-2. (The STF-2 will cost me $380 and the Velodyne is $500).
I have not heard either one of these yet, but plan to soon. (I don't know if I will find a DLS3750R to demo, but I will ask the only place I have in my area if they have one).
I know the Velodyne is rather expensive and I want to make sure I am not just being mezmerized by the boatload of features on this sub. (That remote would be really handy, but more importantly all the adjustments available on it could make it work in any acoustical environment).
I'd like some opinion from anyone who has info or has heard these two subs.
One specific question is: How does the HSU STF-2 stack up against the Velodyne DLS3750R?
Thank you
Princeismyname 05-27-09, 06:47 PM I was looking into that Velo awhile back but its only 175 watts RMS and only goes down to 28hz. thats not very good if you ask me, especially for that kind of money. :o

Hi,
I had a Velo CHT-12, similar maybe to a DLS-4000, and obviously have heard an STF-2...But I have a question first...
What is the size of your room?
deepstang 05-28-09, 09:53 AM I have the Vel 3750 and think it is a great sub. I got mine new 2nd hand for around $350 off ebay. It has a lot of output and has low distortion. Other advantage is that its piano black finish is very nice. I am sure most people will push you in the direction of ID subs; however, I wanted to give the 3750 its fair shake.

The room is about 13'x18'x8'ceiling, opens up to a dining alcove about 9'x8', two skylights, hardwood floors.

Any of those two can do an Ok work there...(if total space is about 2,500cubic feet):D
The STF-2 is a very musical sub. In power/output delivered they felt about the same...(CHT-12 vs STF-2)

Thanks for the input. I wish I could do Ebay, but it's too risky for my taste. Also Velo will only honor warranty if purchased from one of their "authorized dealers". If it was just a 1 year warranty, it would not matter much, but the Velo 3750 comes with a 3/5 year warranty and that is significant. (Especially seeing as how I usually don't purchase extended warranties on most things).
I must admit that I do not know what an ID sub is.

Yes, it's about 2300 to 2400 cubic feet.:)

The term ID or "Internet Direct" comes because you can actually buy the product without dealing with a salesman/middleman at a regular store, which turns in increased value vs performance for the customer.

Oh I see. I have no problem going ID of course. The only places I have seen Velos are places like CF and Vanns. They aren't noted for great prices.(Although when Vanns has a big special, watch out - super deals to be had. Too bad the subs I need to look at don't ever go on sale).
Those places are alright though on some things, definately less expensive than my local stores.:) With HSU one is stuck paying MSRP plus heavy tax though, but they try to make the price close to reality since they don't put their product in any resellers or stores. (Although the heavy tax kind of kills it).
Anyway, I digress.
mangosalsa 05-29-09, 12:44 AM what do you mean by "heavy tax"? I thought tax was tax?
