Hello everyone!

I'm typically a poster in the HTPC section but thought that today, I'd break free and explore! :)

I have a Sylvania CRT 32" toober (model # SST4324). I have it hooked to a Linux-powered HTPC. The picture for movies and such is great, but for the desktop...not so much. My complaint isn't the resolution or clarity because I know that neither will be that great on this TV (compared to an actual computer monitor) and I'm fine with that. The problem is, I need to "shrink" the screen down. I can't see the edges of the desktop or the bar at the bottom. Almost like the rest of the picture is hiding behind the plastic trim around the glass.

I know on a computer monitor, this is easy to fix. But I haven't a clue how to do it on a TV.

Thank you in advance for any help!

Depending on what Linux and video card (and driver) you're using, there may be an application or utility where you can pull in the edges and resize the desktop. If you're using an nvidia card there's usually such a utility.

I do have a NVidia card and I do have the NVidia X Configuration utility installed. I went through that and found where I can adjust the rez, but not where I can actually resize the current rez. I'll check again.

Didn't know if I needed to adjust the TV, or the computer.

Thanks!

It's called overscan. All TVs have this turned on by default so there are no black bars during regular broadcast.

It's the video drivers' job to configure this, and it has absolutely nothing to do with resolution or anything else. I know it works under Windows for both nVidia and ATi as i own cards from both manufacturers. I'm not so sure under Linux though, but it should be working... Otherwise it's time to send a few emails.

I just searched for the 'overscan' feature in linux and the NVidia X-server configuration utility does have this adjustment. I'm going to play around with it when I get home.

Thank you for your help!!!
