The PS3 can only play the normal DVD portion of a DVD-Audio disc, so you've lost the ability to play DVD-Audio in hi-res.

There were only certain models that will play sacd disc on the ps3. My PS3 is one that does playback SACDs and its about 2years old and has the 8ogig hdd in it. It should have printed on the right side of the ps3 all of the capabilities the PS3 you have will do, If it has the sacd logo then yours is one of them. If not no go on the sacd front on a ps3. As far as DVD audio that's a no go. The ps3 does not playback dvd audio MLP tracks. What you are hearing from your DVD A disc's are the DD or DTS tracks.

What else are you using that take up the multi channel analog inputs besides your Denon?

Hi thanks for the response's re my PS3 it is an original 60 Gb model with SACD.Could the PS3 read the MLP tracks after a firmware update ?My new stand/rack is pretty much full the only thing i could do is sit the ps3 flat on the top of the Denon DVD-2000 but i am not sure how good that would be for either one of them ? Any thought's greatly received .

..............the only thing i could do is sit the ps3 flat on the top of the Denon DVD-2000 but i am not sure how good that would be for either one of themAs far as I know the PS3 CAN be used horizontally. Right? The 2200 won't care if something is on top of it.

For SACD, you ARE better off using the HDMI connection as your new receiver is much more flexible and capable in terms of its bass and time management as well as any other processing.

For MLP, you have no choice but to use your 2200 and the multichannel analog connection. If you want to pass DVD-A via HDMI your only other option is another player. You should be able to get an inexpensive player that will pass DVD-A via HDMI. The low-end Denons (will not pass SACD via HDMI) or Pioneers (will pass SACD as DSD) would be good options. This would be the least expensive option. You should be able to find one for $100 or less.

Otherwise you may want to consider a BR-capable universal player like the soon to be available OPPO. Although with what you already have, you really do not need that.

That it has no ventilation holes, especially on top, means it should be fine with something atop it. If you are concerned about the affect of the heat from the Denon upon the PS3, don't use them both at the same time.
