So, I just attempted to play a few discs from the Doors Perception box... when I play the surround mix, the vocals are extremely hard to hear. The two channel versions sound OK. I've got a 4.1 setup. I have not run into this problem with any other discs.

Anyone else seen similar? Maybe this is how they are supposed to sound?

Thanks for any info.

They have sounded great on my set in both stereo and mc. Is your 4.1 setup omitting the center?

Yep, many surround disks have the main vocals in the center channel. I bet that's what the problem is.

I bet that's what the problem is.If that is what the problem is, elee532, you need to set your AVR and/or player up as having no center channel speaker. But if that is the problem, I'd find it hard to believe that you hadn't noticed it before.

If that is what the problem is, elee532, you need to set your AVR and/or player up as having no center channel speaker.Doesn't that depends on how the player is connected to the receiver? If connected via 6-ch analogue, then setting the receiver to phantom centre may not help (unless he's got one of the few receivers that re-digitizes the multi-channel analogue inputs). I wonder if the player can be set to phantom centre?

I wonder if the player can be set to phantom centre?Right. That's why I said "and/or". ;)

And, yes, if he is using a player's multichannel analog outputs, the player CAN be configured as having no center. In which case he would probably want to configure both the player AND the AVR as having no center. Not OR. :)

Thanks for all the replies. I am playing through an Oppo 980h via analog outs connected to an Emotiva LMC-1 pre-pro. The the Oppo and the LMC are both configured for no center channel. I have dozens of DVD-A and SACD discs, and these are the only discs I've had this trouble with. Hmm?? Two other thoughts I'll have to look into when I have some time...

I don't think I have an RCA cable running between the center out on the Oppo and the center in on the Emotiva. As I mentioned already, this has not posted a problem wiith any other discs. But maybe?

I assume these discs have a DD or DTS track. I'll try playing this track on my HTPC and see how it sounds.
