I received my preliminary drawings, and will soon be meeting with an A/C guy... who most likely has never done anything with isolation....

I live in Florida, and I have a heat pump (compressor is outside, air handler is in the garage or house). A/C gets used about 8 months of the year, heat anywhere from 1 week to at most 2 months (when needed). I will be adding a separate A/C for the theater space (27x15x10.5) and 2 adjoining rooms (grand total of new sq footage is about 850). The new air handler will be in the attic of addition (not above theater), compressor outside. Single thermostat will be used to control temp in all 3 rooms.

Does anyone have any pointers on how to bring A/C in the room from an isolation perspective? I am also looking for advice on size, number of supplies and returns, as well as supply/return placement.

Here is rough idea of ceiling (all air will originate from air handler in attic):

I may do small cans in lower soffit, as well as crown on lower edge for rope light tray. I was thinking about just putting 2 supplies and 2 returns in the lower soffits, pointing down.

Anything I should be aware of? Thanks!

Don't use metal ducts, use product 6M or 6B here for your ducts. It will help reduce noise transfer with the fabric rather than plastic core. Ted has some info also in the soundproofing.com library on vents in soffits.

We also have much more extensive articles on Soffits and Ventilation in our Custom Installation Manuals

Thanks!

Now perhaps it is purely cooincidence, but Big and Ted have been responding to my recent posts at around the same time... now that I think about it I believe I read a thread in which you 2 may be the same person... I am starting to wonder.... :)

One thing is for sure, I'm completely convinced that Jeff doesn't have enough to do given how much time he spends answering questions. I need to give him the key to my house and get him working on my room while I'm at work...

Big, I think you should put the Flexmaster link in your signature, as I cannot count the number of times I've seen you post it. :D

Seriously, I have this flex-duct in my room, (thanks to Big), and it works awesome. I would not consider doing a room without it.
