Dear Forum,

Just last weekend I embarked on a project planning for HT.

Context :
Place - Castle Rock - 6300ft above the sea level
Home - 3 years old 2K sqft finished area
Basement - 30X15 and 30X15 L-shape - Insulated by Oakwood homes
Budget 10K without equipment purchase (plan to buy equipment in fall)
Minimum requirement - HT and an Office/Kids play area - Optional Bathroom

Design Day 1 Problems I see
- I have a basement sump pump
- Access to storage/bath area
- Window if we want to make HT any bigger

Need some ideas from the team, I am very open to ideas.

Welcome amar!

We're in the same county (Douglas). Two things:

1) You don't want granite floors in a theater...

2) Make sure you understand the floating wall requirement due to expanding soils.

I'd also rework the bathroom and storage areas so not to have those odd angles. No need to waste a ton of space on a long hall when a short one T'ing into the bath and storage area would do.

One thing to keep in mind with the stairs in the HT room pretty much kiss goodbye any chance for sound proofing.

Make sure you do a ton of reading. Reading a dozen or so complete build threads should be a requirement before any DIY dedicated HT build.

Welcome to the forum, great to see another CO build!
I'll second Cathan's comment on the sound isolation/stairs issue. If you have a family, and like to watch movies even at moderate volumes, you should take sound isolation into consideration. It's way, way easier and cheaper do things now. Do a lot reading and check on this site for some great info:

Appreciate the comments and recommendations.

Progress so far :
1. Decided to go for Carpet Flooring
2. Decided to drop bath room idea now to stay in budget
3. Increased to budget to $15K
4. Extended the time to Aug 15th Construction completion date

Inclining Decisions (need help)
1. Projector Screen on opposite side of the wall (towards stairs landing)
2. Thick insulation next to stairs so that HT sounds reasonable
3. Basement drain pump seamless floor level covering with good insulation
4. Sounds boards for walls/walls panels

Questions :

Given my layout is there a way I can switch HT room/Office ?
Is it a crazy idea to have stairs next to HT?

Attached my new updated plan.

Appreciate your feedback. Thanks, Amar
