View Full Version : Fun Little Article on Sound Ted White 06-02-09, 07:40 PM http://www.soundproofingcompany.com/library/articles/what_is_sound Johnsteph10 06-02-09, 07:50 PM Reminds me of a high school physics class. :D Good article. Dennis Erskine 06-03-09, 08:40 AM Going for the Newberry or the Pulitzer, Ted? Kevin_Wadsworth 06-03-09, 03:11 PM Interesting article, Ted. Thanks for taking the time to write it. As a bit of a critique, I'd say that the article is a bit scattered, jumping topics without much transition. I'd also stick with the same units instead of switching form m/s to mph. And a last thing, the links included in the article don't show up for me (using IE6). But again, nice write-up and a good starting point for someone trying to learn. Cathan 06-03-09, 04:48 PM I love the "make your own wave" doohicky. :) BritInVA 06-03-09, 05:40 PM Here are a couple of links containing two mixed sounds each Are there some links missing? Ted White 06-03-09, 05:58 PM IE6 is causing issues with the Flash Player component of the article, I guess. Should be fixed shortly. BritinVA, is that a quote from our article? I'm not seeing that... carboranadum 06-03-09, 06:16 PM Ted: Good primer, but here's a typo or two for correction: "In air 331 meter per second (mps) creates something of a "chain reaction" "It turns out that the air is able to support not just one single wave of pushes (pure tones)..." Where did "pushes" enter the conversation? I think you could just say ...not just one wave, but many different waves simultaneously... "Here are a couple of links containing two mixed sounds each. Can you hear each individual sound at work?" Next to last sentence of the third paragraph. (Links are missing). Ted, not picking at all. Just trying to make a good thing even better. The flash interactive portion in the page works fine in IE 8.0.6001. I just took me a minute to figure out how to work it. CJ Ted White 06-03-09, 06:25 PM OK got it. Man, I wrote this about 1 year ago. I sort of stumbled back across it and was playing with the animation and thought I'd post it. Hadn't noticed the missing sound links Thanks much for the thoughts and proofing! |
