The remote abruptly stopped working. It will turn off the set and switch sources but it will not operate the dvd disc control. I tried the remote for the ES-15 spare unit and it operates the ES-25. I replaced the batteries, of course, but no help there. The model numbers are different on the remotes.
Any hints? Thanks, John (this might be a great time to convince dear wife to buy a new recorder)
Actually their isn't much better than the ES-25 (at least for HDD less DVDRs). My guess is you've accidentally set the remote to a different remote number than the DVDR.
I would try holding down the #1 key on the remote and the center enter key at the same time (for a couple seconds). This will change the remote control back to remote 1.
To change the remote control to remote 2 you would hold down the #2 key and the enter key, #3 and enter for remote code 3. Once you get the remote working you can change the DVDRs remote code to 1,2 or 3. Normally after that you set the remote's output.
Thank you for the winning fix! You saved me the trouble (and the expense) of buying something new.
This recorder has burned over 500 dvds with no issues. I don't use the tuner so it not being digital isn't a problem.
Thanks again, John
If you ever have problems with either of your Pannys corrupting recordable discs when trying to edit or finalize discs you should really clean the DVD drive spindle. Also if the drive starts grinding or making loud noises this is also a symptom of a dirty spindle.
My ES-15s and ES-25 requires cleaning at least yearly. The cleaning takes less than 1/2 hour and is described in this (http://club.cdfreaks.com/f106/fixing-your-panny-when-theres-fault-lens-cleaning-doesnt-help-210507/) thread.
