A friend of mine setting up a HT in the basement of his new house as part of the process of finishing it, and asked me for advice....and as I happen to be pretty clueless myself, I thought I should consult you guys :D He is not after anything high-end, so the idea is to have the room done right acoustically without bringing in a HT installer, if we can
The room in question is in the corner - N and E walls are concrete foundation, and the staircase is in the SW corner. It is roughly 18' by 15' - the framing for the walls are in place already. Here are some pictures:

NE corner of the room, the concrete walls. There is maybe a foot of space behind the E wall frame because of some pipework not in the picture.

SW corner. You can see the slot for double doors in the S wall and the staircase in the corner. Also note the ducts which will be moved so it'll be running parallel to the N wall so we can put a soffit around it.

The room as seen through the W wall.

The space behind the W wall, intended as storage room, but could be encroached into.
EDIT: Hopefully better questions after some reading:
1-Ceiling isolation/decoupling: will this plan work to create a room within a room?
a) Convert the S and W walls to double-stud walls, decoupled from the ceiling.
b) Decouple the N and E walls from the ceiling by cutting off the tops a few inches and install a new top plate
c) Put floating joists on top of everything, install DD+GG, reinstall ducts + soffit
2-Do we need to do anything with the floor beyond carpeting?
3-Can anyone envision a way to make use of the space under the stairs behind the W wall? It seems to me it'd be impossible to soundproof that area, but if there were a way then the room could be bigger..
4-Any major problems you can see from the pictures that need addressing?
