We are in the process of building a new house. At this point I'm just looking for ideas of screen placement and seating.

I'd like to have a 50 inch plasma/lcd for everyday watching and a 100ish inch screen for movies but I might just use projector and screen for everything. Room will be totally light controlled.
I only want a oversized couch for seating, with end table and coffee table in front.
My thoughts were to face the windows and have the screen drop in font with the couch centered in the room but not sure. Other option would be against one wall and screen on the other but didn't know if this would be a good for speaker placement.
Any help at this point would be great.
Thanks.
Screen coming down in front of the windows was what I saw as my first choice.
Otherwise move the bar back by the closet door (in the "bottom" corner of your drawing) and put the screen on the “top” wall so that you can hang your plasma/lcd on it when the screen is up.
Although your room is getting pretty close to square, which is less than ideal from a sound standpoint. But I am sure others with more experience will chime in on that.

Lose the bar, put the screen on the north wall.
Put your seating just in front of the hallway entrance. Put your side surrounds on speaker stands (dang windows).
Put a buffet or similar on the south wall to hold all the stuff you were going to put in the bar.

Thanks for the ideas. This was my original thought.

I might also put the bar area in the closet, its about 4' x 6', off the east wall. I'm having the rough plumbing put in that area but since we are so far off in the build process things can and will change.

Just found that schedule has moved up several months. Groundbreaking next week. Anyone have any other thoughts. How well do in-wall/ceiling speakers work for surround?
Thanks.

That room is very nearly square, which is going to present some acoustic challenges for sure. You might want to leave some room for treatment...front walls, corners, back wall and side reflection points.

My new idea was to do all inwall, with LCR behind a fixed AT screen. The closet door at the bottom leads in unfinished storage space so access is easy. Then side surrounds on the sides and rears in ceiling above. All equipment would be in other walk in closet.
Sadly the room is pretty square so its not ideal acoustically but its better than nothing.
The window wall will have full room darkening curtains. That should help deaden the sound there. I could then build corner traps at the back.
So much to think about.

Tell me about it :) I've been reading this forum daily for over a year and am just starting to feel like I am getting an handle on things. I'm still 2 - 3 months from construction but have a pretty good idea of how its going to go.
