My HT room is in the build phrase right now (clips and hat chanels in place and 1 layer of sheetrock on the ceiling so far). the dimensions are 22 x 11 x 6'8"

the fact that the ceiling is so low presents some problems for me in terms of lighting. I dont' want to go the recessed route in the interest of sound insulation. Also, being so close to your head, they may be kinda hot. Track lighting is a consideration but it may look crowded on a ceilng that low (and may get in the way of projector). I was thinking in-floor lights in the riser and in the stage, but am having a hard time finding anything like that and the stuff I did find seems to be for external installation. problem here might be that the lights would be too hot to walk on. Granted I"d put them out of the way, but I have a toddler and another on the way so want to keep it safe.

I was thinking I could probably make a custom fixture with a CFL or some other type of cooler light. Has anyone done anthing like this? Can anyone point me to a decent source of in-floor fixtures? Does anyone have any other suggestions? I did want to do a small soffit (just a molding around the perimeter, not a true soffit) but rope lighting is too dim to be anything but accent lighting. I thought if I could maybe get some flourescent tubes in there it might be enough but then it might be too much.
please help with ideas.

Thanks!

How about surface mounted sconces with wiring hidden either in wall or behind wall treatments.

First there is nothing wrong with using an exterior fixture indoors.

If you really want some up lights in your riser you might want to think about these.

I just measured a 60 watt (14 actually) compact florescent bulb and it is about 1 7/8 in diameter and "should fit"

I am planning on 4 sconces already but i am assuming they won't be bright enough. I want to have enough light in the room that if I just wanna hang out there and read or something, it'll be sufficient. The room has no windows at all so all lighting will be artificial at all times.

A light shining up from the floor isn't going to help much with reading unless the walls and ceiling are very reflective. Something you want to avoid in a theater.

That's probably true. Well the ceiling will have to be close to white just cause if I make it too dark, the room will really look like a crawl space :)
Walls will not be too reflective though. My projector will be most likely mounted on a shelf all the way by the ceiling - I may put a couple small accent lights there pointing at the seating area for added light. Thanks for your link. I found some other well lights on there that may do the trick. Heat still might be a concern but we'll see.

Maybe you could find some sconces that have multiple bulbs. That might help brighten it up a bit. But I don't know how it would end up looking. You know something more like a bathroom fixture. Or track lighting on the walls pointed in different directions.

Problem is it's a very narrow room so you can't have sconces that are too big - and it's gotta fit aesthetically with the theme of the room. Eitehr way, sconces are typically not that bright

Yeah I knew aesthetics were going to be a problem. What I was alluding to was something along these lines:

4x100 watts each, should be plenty bright.
