I just looked at my green crt and it looks like it has a long hair thin burn line from top to bottom and is curved, BUT it has no effect on the picture?
Any ideas what it is? It does look like a hair in the coolant and looks like a scratch on the fospher that was filled in from the inside.

If you can see the 'scratch' with the set off by shining a flashlight into the tube, then chances are you have a bad tube. Sony had a bunch of green tubes that had phosphor delamination over time. I've got some new in the box tubes for sale for cheap if you need one.
Thanks curt, After looking with a bright light it looks like a wire of about 40 gage.. It not only is in front of the fospher i can see it on the black parts of the tube.

Take a flashlight and shine it into the tube. If the line casts a shadow it isn't a burn.

Turn the pj off before shining a flash light on the tube.
It does cast a shadow. It looks like a black wire or thick hair.
I have a few pictures I'll post.

Pull the lens off the tube. A dog hair maybe? There's an air gap between the lens and tube, anything is possible. Lazy spider maybe? :)
I pulled the lenses off already, thats how i saw the line.
It's as long as the whole tube even the black parts.
I put the lenes back on after cleaning the tube faces and lenses and the picture is perfect. This is the third time i had the lenses off for cleaning in 5 years and i did not notice the line before.
It seems to cast a shadow and moves with the angle of the flash light, so does that rule out a cracked tube too?
The tubes do have about 3000 hours and the blue just shows a hint of shading if you look carefully.
Thats probably from "bad glass" I have seen some sony tubes that has front glass like that, looks like hair indeed.

OK, it does sound like the front glass is cracked then. A phosphor burn would show in the image. If it's not leaking coolant, leave it alone. Any disturbing of the front glass might shift the pieces enough to cause leakage, then the tube will be toast.

Here's a picture, is it a crack or a hair? and it's on the tube face and not the front glass.

And here you can see a shadow of the line at the top of the tube.
I would say that is more reminiscent of a crack.
