Hello all,

Hopefully I have posted this in the correct forum and if not, please redirect if possible...

I bought my Toshiba 51H83 about 5 years ago (manufactured in Nov. 2003), and so far no problems with anything at all. Just a few days ago however, I noticed that neither my Directv universal remote, or the factory Toshiba would work (adjusting sound, power on/off, etc.). Checked the batteries and even used it with other TVs (after code changes with the DTV remote) and everything worked fine so I believe the problem now is with the TV itself. I tried the remotes again last night and it worked for a few seconds but then nothing again.

Please let me know if this is something you have encountered before and how I can go about fixing it, or if I need to call someone for repair work (I am in So. California). Thanks much!

Peter

Anyone?

Can I get a IR relay (not really sure if that is right term) and connect it to the TV somehow to make the remote function again?

May be a silly question, but there's not sunlight shining on the front of the TV where the IR sensor is, is there? That may interfere with the remote operation.

Looking at the manual online, the remote sensor is actually located behind the screen:

Thanks for commenting oktoberrust11. The TV sits in a niche away from direct sunlight so pretty sure that is not the culprit... I had read that somewhere else online so was checking that.

Any ideas on how to resolve this short of dismantling the TV by a technician?

I have this set since new but have not had this issue...The obvious question to ask is about any lighting conditions that may have changed but you already responded that lighting has not changed...So the next question is have you added ANY electronic equipment in the room or within line of sight of the set around the time you noticed the problem???

As an aside I LUV this TV!!! :D This is one of the finest HD CRT RPTV made in my opinion and their track record validates my thoughts on this model...

Also another question would be have you cleaned the lenses inside at all??? If not you need to and it is possible the IR sensor could be dirty...

And have you tried being right in front of the TV and tried the remote(s)???Not from the couch but standing directly in front of the set...
