It appears that the MKV container is being used by many WDTV owners. Could someone that has had good success creating their own MKV files let us know what tools you used to convert your videos to the MKV container?
I've got alot of sports footage that I shot with a camcorder, edited and then converted to dvd format. One of the important editing points is the insertion of chapters (imagine a chapter at each key play in a football game). It plays on the WDTV but without the chapter support. So, at the least I need to figure out how to get chapters working. And if possible I'd like to avoid having to reencode the footage.

shouldn't mkvmerge take raw video of any kind and mux it into an mkv? you just need to extract the unchanged video from your source...no recode...

mkvmerge GUI will do the remux but it doesn't read the chapters I created for the DVD. :(
It has an editor that will allow chapters to be added, but I'm still hoping to find an automatic way to read the original (including chapters) and then package as mkv.

Off the top of my head I can't think of anything that will use the priginal chapters, but almost all will allow you to make chapters.

When I've used MakeMKV, it has retained the original chapters from DVD.

There you go MakeMKV, never used it myself.
