I have looked through the forums for some help, most advise I have tried already. Maybe there is something new or I am missing.

Here is the deal. I have a Sony KDFE42A10 that has worked well for the last 3 years. I have had a PS3 and Direct TV hooked to it via a HDMI Switcher using imput 6. I have had no problems until this past Monday. All of a sudden without ever having a problem with HDMI, my PS3 will not display, yet my Direct TV works fine again, both using imput 6 and HDMI via a switcher.

What I have done:

1. Spent 4 hours with Sony and PS3 people. I have unplugged the TV and did different resets on the PS3 at least a dozen times.

2. Hooked PS3 up directly to the back of TV with same cord that is used for Direct TV-nothing. New HDMI-nothing. Routed into the switcher the same way as DTV-nothing, but DTV works with HDMI.

3. Tried neighbors PS3-Same problem.

4. Connected using AV cords-works in 480i mode. Hooked up HDMI and was "detected". Selected the option in PS3 and screen still blank on imput 6(HDMI).

5. Checked a newer Element TV and had no problem with HDMI in all modes. Made sure to custom set 1080i on my Element tv just in case and went back to original tv-still same problem.

6. Cussed at it.

Seem that when I do turn on the PS3, my screen will flicker and even turn a darker shade of black using the HDMI. The screen will say video 6, 480i even though the 480i defaults are turned off. Again, not an issue using HD content on DTV as widescreen and HD is auto detected and displayed.

I have the 80g system purchased in Dec. and have had no problems with games, blue ray and usb-personal videos. I am lucky if I turned the system on 3 times a week.

What gives? No one knows-Sony or the local techs they have had me call.

Thanks

You might want to ask this in the PS3 thread (under BD players).

But here's a couple of quickies for you:

1. Have you tried a soft reset? (With you finger, holding down the power button on the front of the PS3).
2. Have you tried a hard reset (pulling the plug from the wall)?

It may be possible that the PS3 has got 'confused' and is maybe trying to display a resolution that your TV can't cope with. By this I mean that - as an example - the PS3 is trying to output 1080p when your tv can only cope with 1080i.

You might also want to find the specific thread for your tv (if there is one) and ask the same there. I think you'll have better luck in the PS3 threads though.

I appreciate your help, but as noted before, I have done numerous resets on both units. I have also forced the output to be 1080i using another tv to do this.

Thanks
