Hello,

I have a good friend who has a pioneer elite 940HD 42" plasma. This TV has extremely low hours (less than 10 hours on the unit). He is wanting to sell me the TV and I am having trouble finding a reasonable price to start at. TV is in MINT condition. Can you guys please help me out. I read the FAQ/Rules and I believe this post is OK. Please tell me if it is not and I will close.

Thanks!

It was a fantastic unit in it's day, but today i would probably pay no more than a grand for it. But i think a Panasonic 42S1/50S1 would outperform it in some categories (black levels, brighter screen, higher resolution/no SDE, lower engergy consumption, etc) and a new Panasonic would have a warranty, while that used Elite does not.

He would probably be shocked and offended at such a low offer, so maybe ask him what he thinks he can honestly get for this TV in today's market. Used plasmas sell for really low prices nowadays.

I had a 950 set briefly which I had to return because the set kept shutting off on its own. Since I was unable to find a replacement I had to upgrade to a 111. The difference in the picture quality was not subtle between the 8G & 9G.
If you can afford the extra dough I highly recommend getting a 111 while they last at BB for example.
