Hey all. This is a great forum, very knowledgeable people here. Anyway, I have a Sony Grand Wega 55" and it has been a very reliable unit. Last week I started noticing a shaded red line across the entire width of screen at the top and about 2" wide. It is really noticeable on a white or light colored background. I've been to the Sony website and I read where Sony is replacing Optical Blocks at no charge until June 2010. Does this sound like an optical block issue to you experts? It also doesn't matter what input I am on (Gaming, TV, DVD, etc.) Thanks for any help.

Yes, that's the opt block. That's what happen to my 50e2000. It was more purple though. I took Sonys deal on a new TV, then cleaned out the opt block myself. The problem happens when dust gets inside the opt block and on all the lenses and mirrors.

rolue,
I was just offered the deal for my 55e2000. Thinking about taking it, but would hate to lose my current tv. How hard is it to clean the Optical Block? is there instructions on how to do this somewhere?
Thanks,

Thanks,

Usually cleaning the OB won't fix it. Parts have been damaged due to heat or uv from the bulb. If it is from dust I doubt the line across the top would be uniform. It Probably needs to be replaced.
