Hello everyone, I've been reading this forum for more than one year but until now I register myself just to let you know great news. Even when I'm not a fan of this band, I'm a fan of multichannel music and I hope 4AD will soon do the same for the Cocteau Twins discography. For now we can have this outstanding deluxe and limited editions of Pixies music history: Minotaur. All of their albums in "Blu-ray audio mastered for 5.1 surround sound and 2 channel stereo at 24/192; DVD mastered for 5.1 surround sound and 2 channel stereo at 24/96."!!!! Take a look to this link to see what I'm talking about: (i'm not aloud to send links so use add the points between the next words): www ainr com (Artist in Residence site).
It's not clear if the DVD is a DVD-A, i suppose so.
For all the fans out there this is really a must have... I'll be just waiting for the Cocteau Twins or This Mortal Coil turn.

The title of your thread is Blu-ray audio then the disc turns to a DVD-A and then maybe to just to a plain old fashion DVD (which it sounds like it is)?

Well, in fact this is a collection of all kinds of media so I didn't know where to start the thread (dvd-a or bluray), here's the whole description of the limited edition (3000 copies, $495 each):
"The definitive Pixies collector's piece. Minotaur is curated by legendary graphic designer, Vaughan Oliver, who in connection with photographer Simon Larbalestier, created the album artwork for all five Pixies' studio albums. Oliver and Larbalestier have teamed up once again on Minotaur, to create their largest single body of Pixies work to date.
Includes all five Pixies' studio albums (Come on Pilgrim, Surfer Rosa, Doolittle, Bossanova, and Trompe le Monde) in the following formats: 24k gold plated CD's; five 12" - 180 gram virgin vinyl LP's cut from the original analog tapes; Blu-ray audio mastered for 5.1 surround sound and 2 channel stereo at 24/192; DVD mastered for 5.1 surround sound and 2 channel stereo at 24/96. Also included is the previously unreleased Pixies 1991 live performance from Brixton, on both Blu-ray and DVD, mastered for 5.1 surround sound at 24/192 and 24/96, respectively. All discs are housed in a custom designed folio.
In addition to reinterpreting all of the original album covers, Oliver's and Larbalestier's extensive work is featured in a 96-page fine art book, measuring 22" x 14" inches, and an additional 54-page book, measuring 7.75" x 8.25". Also included is a 12" x 19.5" giclee print of the duo's work, and two double-sided fold-out posters measuring 48" x 36." "

For only $495.00 you get it all
Makes the Neil Young BD-Audio seem inexpensive

I'll stick with the $175 version, it has everything except the vinyl and art prints . (Also not signed by the band)

At first I thought this set would be a waste since I have the 3 MFSL SACDs, but the 5.1 mixes and blu-rays have me interested.

Yes I was going to say the high res audio and video sound very interesting to me but I don't need all the other goo gah.
I'd be interested in the two blu-ray releases (only).
The albums disc could be priced around $100 (max) and still be fair since 5 seperate dvd-a/sacd discs would cost about that. Add $30 for the concert disc it would not be miles from the full $175 but it would probably make the difference between me buying this and not etc.

Ive always wondered...are they remastering from the ORIGINAL Analog Tapes? If they are mastering from the "16/44.1" then you essentially have a "24/192" recording of a "16/44.1" song.... wouldnt that be the same damn thing? With the analog tape you essentially have "infinity/infinity" and can then have a true "24/192" digital master.

It's about 1987 and my girlfriend's sister(Melissa Walker?) is a graphic artist for Capital Records. We(Joan & I) turn Melissa on to the Cocteau Twins; she turns her bosses at Capital on to the Cocteau Twins; and Capital signs the Cocteau Twins. Coincidence? Prior to that episode, my young friend(Paul), who owned a record store in Ames, Ia(ISU Campus) told me to buy everything I could from 4AD. I did and still have everything by the Pixies, Cocteau Twins, and This Mortal Coil, many of them imports from England. Now if I just had $175 to spare! I saw the Cocteau Twins in concert at the Vic Theatre in Chicago back then. Although I never saw the Pixies, I consider Sonic Youth opening for Neil Young's "Desert Storm" Tour a close 2nd.

None of the tracks on this set are remastered afaik.

Nope, doesn't appear to be remastered (from the link earwit posted above):

(see answer below the Come On Pilgrim album cover pic).
So I guess oo7cable's question above stands: are the bluray (& apparent DVD-A) versions
Blu-ray audio mastered for 5.1 surround sound and 2 channel stereo at 24/192
DVD mastered for 5.1 surround sound and 2 channel stereo at 24/96.
REALLY going to sound any better than what's out there now? Or just the same 16/44.1 data coming through at a higher bitrate? Seems from the band's POV the release is more about the visual design art than the sound, but it does seem odd to have the albums on bluray if the format's not going to be leveraged. Why bother? Or am I missing something?
