View Full Version : Where do Sony 36" CRT's go to retire?
tvmaster 06-15-09, 05:18 PM We have a KV36HS500 Sony 36" crt (with DVI and HDTV).
It's time to say goodbye, even though it is still a fabulous picture (we would like a little more space).
Does anyone have any idea what's the best way to sell this so it ends up in a good home? I don't think charities would want something this large (it must weigh 230 pounds). What kind of price should we expect, if we can even sell it? I have taken a gander at C-list - but people arent' usually interested in AV Geek over there, at least in my experience.
thanks - and if this violates forum rules, sorry.
Goodwill in WA accept working TVs, I dropped off one this morning.
secstate 06-15-09, 09:06 PM If you are willing to haul and it works try Goodwill or Salvation Army and take the tax deduction if you itemize. If not, I would post cheap on craigslist and/or Ebay (as local pickup only). If all else fails post free on CL you haul. I think you can give nearly anything away on CL, at least that has been my experience.
cinemascope 06-15-09, 09:48 PM If you are anywhere in or near Chicago, I would want it...

Thanks - I am sadly in southern California. There is a charity here called Hope industries that picks up electronics, but only if one person can handle it. At 230 pounds, it's too heavy for me to help. Hence, I need to find someone who wants it and will do the lifting.
But thanks for all the good suggestions - looks like Ebay with local pickup is a good idea.

Several months ago my friend's elderly mother-in-law had her old 32" tube TV die on her and she quickly found out that nobody sells large Tube TVs anymore so i was consulted. She was absolutely not interested in getting a flat panel TV of any kind because she just wanted a simple Tube TV like the one she had. We found three suitable Tube TVs for sale on the Los Angeles Craigslist and ended up getting her a very nice 2003 era 36" Sony Tube TV for $200. The seller was glad to get some money for it and even more glad to have the buyer bring help to carry the beast out of his house. The old gal's eyesight isn't as good as it used to be and she is very happy with her bigger Tube TV. She has regular Time Warner Cable but i also set her up with a Radio Shack DTV Converter Box on another input and connected her old abandoned roof antenna and she was
amazed at how clear the new TV looked on the OTA digital channels compared to her analog cable :)
schnydz 06-23-09, 02:47 PM Hi All, new here...great forum!
Yep, I've got one of these as well (Sony KV-32HS420). I've moved it about three times now and promised my self the next time will be out the front door (man they are heavy!). I've been looking lately to replace it with a nice 50" plasma...currently have my eyes set on a used Pioneer Kuro PDP-5010FD.
I'll keep you guys posted if I'm lucky enough to sell this thing on ebay or CraigsList.

schnydz 11-29-10, 05:54 PM So, I’m finally selling my Sony KV-32HS420 CRT. At least that’s the plan (I’d hate to give it away). Has anybody had any luck selling there CRT TV lately either via craigsL or ebay? If so, how much did it go for? Not sure how much to list mine for, $200?

Ended up giving mine to the cleaning woman's brother, for future considerations (he is a man of many talents). Hopefully an equal value of $200 or so - ah, the recession age of "barter".
nredding 12-01-10, 01:20 PM I advertised my 36-incher as free on Craigslist. I wanted to get rid of it quickly since I needed the space for its replacement.
If you follow this route, make sure the new owners are aware they'll need two strong guys and a truck to take it away.
Kansas Beachboy 12-13-10, 03:15 PM I search area Craig's List posts for CRT TV's almost every day, and I see quality 32"-36" units going in price from free to $200. Last Friday, someone in Kansas City had a really nice working 32" Sony (high end model with the curved front) on the matching Sony stand for free. I'd say $50 - $75 is a realistic price for larger CRT TV's. Myself, I've bought 4 CRT TV's off CL in the last year, mostly smaller 13"-20" models that I can move around by myself. Paid anywhere from $5 to a max of $20 for a 20" Sony.
