I would but I can't make much sense out of what you just said.

I'll just say it again, clearly. Many devices benefit from a reboot. It clears memory of spurious code and data. This I know from 30 years of programming computers and knowing there is no such thing as a perfect program. At least one of any complexity.

Exactly. Anyone own/lease a DVR from DishNetwork? They reboot on their own EVERY night.

Why? My nine TiVos never reboot, unless there is a firmware update. They run 24/7/365 with no issues.

How do you know that?

I would lose the 30sec skip and have to enable it again if it rebooted.

And also the transfer rate data will be reset when it is rebooted.(You can go into the settings and see how fast things were transferred to and from your TiVo in mbs)

Gary J

That is well written software (except for having to reset things). Is does not dispel the notion that many devices benefit from rebooting though.

I guess I should have been more specific, Dish ViP series boxes do reboot every night.

Nor have they claimed it is in the latest firmware.

BD structures work perfectly for me from hard disk. Don't do streaming or have any computers running anywhere while in the HT.

Do you use internal hard disk or USB? Haw about PQ comparing to a stand along?

USB has the same transfer rate as an internal drive. C-200 has the same Blu-ray decoder chip as standalone Blu-ray players.

C200 Update from me, a person with multiple working A110s, which Syabase in their infinite wisdom decided to stop making, before providing an adequate replacement.

General note - The C200/A200 still won't play HD audio from M2TS files, only ISOs/ISO structures.

After weeks of waiting, I decided to finally try this out. So I did the following:
1) Tried an entire ISO of Transformers 2
2) Tried a movie-only ISO of Transformers 2
3) For giggles, tried a few random M2TS files

My results (using the latest public firmware, which I think is 1/18/10):

- The C200 consistently skips and jerks, both sound and video, with either type of ISO. Since ISOs can only be used over SMB, it appears the SMB implementation in the C200 is still too slow for full BDs.

- The C200 even skips on regular M2TS files over SMB, and of course only plays non-HD audio

I'm completely gigabit hardwired, using a Windows Server 2008 R2 as a file server, so it's nothing on the network/server side.

Also note, it still doesn't seem to support IIS 7.5, but I need to nail that down.

The A110 plays all M2TS files perfectly, with HD audio, and has no issues with IIS 7.5.

Conclusion - the C200 is still not even close to ready for prime time.

I agree, I have 3tb of m2ts files so for me the c-200 is useless  i would like a player that could bitstream DTS master and Dolby True HD from m2ts and iso

Picture quality is identical whether from a USB drive, the internal drive or over the network. Playback is the same as well. I have no issues streaming from my WHS BD ISOs to my C200 and A200 concurrently.

My IO box with the older chip in it bitstreams just fine, if i could only have BD iso support i would have the perfect player, for me i would just rip BD iso of Blu Ray movies that are branched and rip the main m2ts movie from all others..it saves space!

Yup, you can just grab the hd audio, main movie, and have a nice clean m2ts (I would recommend using ts instead). See my quick writeup and if you go to the bottom of the article the wiki I put together:

Because the C200/A200 won't play the HD audio from an M2TS/TS file. Only from an ISO.

dbone,

I was reading your ClownBD that you mentioned you can select both unconverted and ac3 with checkboxes for audio. I just downloaded the CloneBD v.76 and I see radio button which I can only select one only. Do you know if only v.65 support this feature or I am doing something wrong with v.76?

btw, great write up.

I know that, but if you followed along to what I was responding to the poster said they only ripped to ISO branched and for non branched they just ripped to m2ts, so my point was you can rip branched to m2ts as well (does not have to be an iso). He also has an ioBox which bitstreams from m2ts

I'm also coming from a WD TV Live, and would like to know a few things..

Does the C-200 automatically recognize ntsc/pal content and change the refresh rate? If no, I assume it has the option for 24, 25, 30, and 60 fps playback.

I have a Pioneer 5020 so hoping this will be a good match for it. Other than that, how is the picture quality of 1080p mkv rips compared to the WD player? Anyone?

Warpdrv
03-26-10, 06:54 PM
There is an auto setting for refresh rate, or you can taylor it for the needs of your display.... such as you stated.... It'll be plenty flexible for your 5020...

1080p is 1080p.... they both do it fine and the same as far as I know...
I think the better chipset output goes to the PCH.... But 1080p material should be untouched and not needed to be scaled.....

Any explaination as to why the C-200 does not work with the PlayOn media server from MediaMall Technologies? It'd be nice to get Hulu content through the C-200. Right now I use my DirecTV receiver to access it. PS3 works also. I was hoping to run as much as possible through the C-200 though.

Why is this player so f'n slow? My 1st Gen standalone Samsung BD player loads discs MUCH faster. I have latest firmware, all the NMT Apps are installed on an internal 2.5" SSD, and using the Plextor 8x read B320SA Blu-ray drive. Streaming full BD ISOs is choppy as well. Not real happy with the performance of the C200 so far.

Hey guys, I am new to the C-200 and have not purchased it yet, but I am first wanting to find out if the C-200 will play OTA recorded shows that are recorded with SageTV? I am planning a central WHS which will house all of my video, audio, pics, and distribute them throughout my home. I will have SageTV for WHS on my WHS and it will recorded all of my OTA shows that I want and store them on the WHS. I am looking into extenders for the different rooms and I know SageTV has the HD200 that would work, but I really like the features of the C-200 and the LCD display that would allow me to play my music without having to turn the TV on. Also, the ability to add a BD player is attractive. But I don't know if the C-200 would play my recorded SageTV shows. Does anyone know if this can be done? Thanks for anyone/everyone's comments.

I believe that SageTV records as MPEG. If so then the C200 should be able to play back without issue. You can also use a program like DVRMSToolbox to strip out the commercials from your SageTV recording and encode to mkv.

Your streaming problem is a network problem not the media player.

You would think so, right? However both a plugged directly into the same gigabit switch. I also have a few other receivers: DTV, PS3 that I stream 1080P content to without issues. Those files are not ISOs though. So, it's not the network. I thought it was the file itself(since I don't have another to test with) Then yesterday I lose a drive in my raid5 array. I think it was the drive that caused my stuttering. Rebuilding now. Still no excuse for the disk load time though. According to Tomshardware, this is one of the better BD readers out there. I'll hold my verdict until I retest with my rebuilt array but still not thrilled with overall performance so far.

My Avel Linkplayer 2 seemed to perform just as good if not better. Too bad it does not play BDs.

You cannot bitstream HD Audio via optical, only HDMI. Possible get an HDMI switch or maybe move your cable box or PS3 to component to free up an HDMI port

What I do is I have my cable box connected component and then all my devices connected via HDMI. My suggestion would be to try the same with your cable box. You can switch between HDMI and component at first to see if you see any difference, I see no difference with my setup when I tested

get an HDMI switch with a remote. I use several HDMI switches with my 24+ HDMI devices. I hit one button on my Harmony remotes and it changes all devices, including my HDMI switches, to the correct input.

I think every HDMI switch I've owned over the last five years has come with a remote, except for the few I owned that had a manual push button.

The C-200 is the same as the other NMT's in that it has an option for NTSC/PAL/24P framerate sync. This means that if the source is different than the default output and you have that framerate enabled in the NMT setup then it will automatically switch the output to mirror the source. IE if its an mkv ripped from bluray and is 1080p/24 and you have your default output to 1080p/60 then it will switch to 1080p/24 when you play the movie and switch back to 1080p/60 when you stop it.

I have around 50 HD-DVDs ripped and converted to Blu-Ray folder structure, keeping the primary HD audio track. Apparently, most of them have eac3 audio. And apparently, eac3 is not Blu-Ray compliant. This was done quite some time ago using tsMuxeR before I found Clown_BD. Now, my PCH-A110 plays the video/audio from the standalone .m2ts files (more or less) just fine. However, I recently burned a couple backups to BD-R and my PS3 played the video but not the audio. After further research I made the discovery regarding eac3 not being Blu-Ray compliant. I suppose I could re-convert everything with Clown_BD which exports eac3 to LPCM, if I had the time or inclination.

My question: Will the C200 play a Blu-Ray folder structure with eac3 audio? That would be sweet and might just be the deciding factor (after $$) on whether I buy one.

Thanks.

Regarding PlayON, they're (Syabas, community ?) are working on replacing DLNA since that seems to be the problem (check the forums over there for more on this). It is a real pity since PlayON does already work on the original A-100 which I have. It's not as good as Netflix on Wii, PS3, or Xbox mainly because of navigation issues, but the picture is dvd quality at least. That's good since I have the PCH in with the big-screen home theater..

How is the upconversion on this unit with std dvd material.
People like mpc used to make a big deal about that but now all reviews are just HD.
Which I have a VERY small library.

for the people relying on the wiki. Its just people testing and its a great thing but like the D-Link DIR-655 one person said yes and one said no. this unit had a big change some time ago and its now up to revision 4 board. No where does anyone state the revisions on any hw tested. So its still a crap shoot on some of the yes/no statements.

From what I can tell (not home yet so haven't tested) it appears you can possibly switch back and forth between this UI/Jukebox and the stock one. It relies on IMDB to get all the metadata, and there is also a utility to convert your YAMJ metadata if you want
