View Full Version : Sony - 1252 - tubes drop out at res. change

I have a Sony 1252 and almost every time my Blu-Ray player switches from DVD to a Blu Ray or reverse (resolution change 480p to 1081i) the red and green tubes drop out and only the blue remains on. I have to cycle the power to get all tubes "glowing" again.

The projector is fed by a Crescendo transcoder (RTC2220 YPrPb to VGA Transcoder with Adjustable Gamma) the 5 BNC connector VGA board.

Help, is this a board issue or what?

Thanks

I'd try the same thing but connect a computer to the SVGA connector, and switch resolutions. See if the R and G drop out with a computer source.

I'd say this is a source issue, but I could be wrong.

I have not tried a computer but I did try a Time Warner Cable box. If I switch the cable box from 480p to 1080i output (component out), when the projector does the switch (picture distrorts, changes size, then settles down to the intended view) some times the Red and Green colors will go blank. The Red and Green sometimes will go blank when the projector has been left on for an extended amount of time also (3-4 hours of play from power up).

Did you do a registration at 1080?

I am sorry I am not familiar with the term registration.

Do you mean converge at 1080i and save? Yes. I also did the same a 480p and save.

The tubes just quite putting out light all of a sudden.

Did you also hold the save button for over five seconds until the other save comes up, while on your 1080 input

I did not know there was a save after the save but I will give this 5 sec. button hold a a try.

Anyhow I am not convinced the tubes (Red and Green) going blank has much to do with registration.

I have had the drop out on both 480p sources (DVD player, DVD disc on a Blu-ray player(480p), and Time Warner Box(480p)) as well as 1080i (Blu-ray player playing Blu-ray disc(1080i) and Time Warner Box HD channels(1080i)).

The tubes drop out after the projector has been on for about 3-4 hours and most times if the resolution changes.

When you loose the red and green, have you tried hitting the menu to see if you have that?

Yes the menu text will display but only the blue color so some text of course is more readable than others depending on the amount of blue light making up the text color.

Are there separate boards for each tube or maybe a board for the Red and Green and a separate one for the Blue?

Well my first thought was that maybe it was a problem with the CA(RG) board since this board affects red and green. But alot of this board also feeds the CA(B) board that is for the blue tube. So I had to look for something that would not affect blue but would affect red and green.

Without going into to much detail, heater,ABL and B+ go into the CA(B) first and then to the CA(RG).

So I would check for a poor connection of the wire harness from the CA(B) board to the CA(RG) board. The connector numbers are CAG-4 and CAB-4. You may want to try wiggling them when you loose the red and green.

Another thing if you dont have success with this is to swap the green and blue video feed cables on the CA(RG) and CA(B) boards. These connector numbers would be CA(B)-J1 and CA(G)-J1. Here your looking to see if you still loose green or if you now loose your blue.

I will give your suggestions a try.
