I've got it hooked up via optical out to my old Sony Dream System DVD/Receiver (DAV-C450) which claims to have a built-in DTS decoder. I've got 2 different mkvs w/ DTS that don't work. I haven't yet come across any DTS audio that does work, although I've only had my WD TV for a few days.

Any ideas what's wrong? Is there any easy fix to this?

Do you have audio output on the WD set to digital? Is the device you have it hooked up to set to receive optical? I don't know about that particular machine, but on my Onkyo I have to select "optical" in the channel I have it hook up through, as opposed to analog.

Yes I have the WD audio set to digital, and an optical cable connecting the WD to the DAV-C450. Is it maybe the type of digital optical cable I'm using? It's a pretty old one.

yup, there's a red light there. Maybe it's got something to do w/ the way their encoded and the way the WD TV processes the signal??

Shouldn't be. Hmmm. Can you select different input methods per channel on the Sony? Such as tell it in channel whatever to look for analog, or digital?

Based on the manual it seems like it may only be possible to specify the audio input for a DVD played on the system (it's a HTiB) since it is done via the "DVD Display" menu, and not when an external device is hooked up to the optical port.

That's possible. If that's the case you can still at least convert to the sound to AC3. Personally I'd just splurge on a entry-mid level AVR that has DTS support. Look for something used on Craigslist, I see them for sub $100 all the time, depending on where you are.
