I am trying to find a laptop to connect to my Samsung HD TV which can play streaming HD video over the web. I want to do one thing in particular: the Metropolitan opera has made available a subscription service over the internet and a library of operas to watch, including HD. The Met has specific software called MetPlayer and you download that, then log in and select your program. In effect I want to use the TV as an HD monitor and audio output. The Samsung has a PC connection for a Monitor in and Audio in. Does anyone do anything like this and can you reccommend Tech specs or specific models to do this? The met says you need at least 2GH Dual Core, 1GB Ram, 128 video card, 1900x1200 display. I would like the smallest thinest cheapest solution as it will be used mainly for this purpose and will remain connected to the TV. TIA for any help.

This laptop from Sony looks pretty good:

I don't know what you have in mind as far as "cheap", but the price looks solid for what it comes with. You can just run the HDMI out from the laptop to your tv. If you are going to use the laptop hooked up to the tv I would recommend a wireless keyboard/mouse so you can operate from the comfort of your sofa and not have to be bent over the laptop. A good option is the Logitech DiNovo mini (I have two of these hooked up to my HTPCs at home)
