I am looking to replace a 27" Sony that is about 12 years old with one of the newer ones widely available on Craigslist. 27" is as big as I can go, so I am wondering if I should even bother looking for an HD set like the HS-420, which is much harder to find than the non-hd sets. I sit about 6-7 feet from the screen. I will probably be using whatever set I buy for less than 2 years, so I don't want to spend much more than a hundred bucks. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I have the kv-27hs420. Got it used 2 years ago off craigslist for $185. It has worked great. I send my signal through the sets 1080i component connections which enhances all television hd or sd. This alone makes it worth having. But then 27 inches is not going to be the same as a larger set. I also just got the kv-32hs420 off craigslist for $160 delivered just recently. It is a nice improvement, but of course it weighs 165 pounds as opposed to the 27 inch weighing 111 pounds. If you can find one, get it, but just make sure it is in sound condition. My 32 inch had a power supply replaced before I bought it. I understand the power supplies have been an issue with the 420's on occasion. But just like with all Sonys they are hit and miss. One goes out in 2 months, another lasts 20 years.
