I recently bought Kef IQ5's for my front and looking at buying a few other things in a few months. I need some help buying a sub for my bedroom. The budget is less than $500 shipped. My room is 11x12. Movie usage - 80% and music usage - 20%. Here are a few sub I'm looking at:

eD a2-300 - while this sub is the least expensive, it has a very long delay to ship.
Velodyne SPL800R - I bought my parents the Microvee last year. They look similar, but what's the difference between these two?
Totem Acoustic Storm - read a lot of good things about this company, but never actually seen or heard any of their products.

If it makes any difference, I'm temporary using an Onkyo 505. I plan to either get a Marantz or Denon receiver. Thanks for any insight and help in advance.

I've got an A2-300 in a 15X30 foot room and I think it does an excellent job. In an 11X12 foot room, I think you'd be pretty satisfied, to say the least :D

The A2-300 will have much better performance than the other two, no question with a larger driver and cabinet will be lower extension and more output across the board. It'll be worth the wait.

Some have been waiting for a month already. I guess I'll save up some money to buy a projector screen and a receiver. Hopefully all these issue will get iron out in a month.

That could be a good/bad thing. I have tenants downstairs and dont really want to disturb the peace. If the volume is very low, does it still rumble?

In a room your size you can easily get away with an a2-250

You'll be able to disturb your tenants with any sub, model doesn't matter. When properly calibrated and taking them in consideration when using it you should be ok. Other things like using it nearfield(as close to the listening position) as possible can help so you don't have to run the subs volume as high to get it level matched with the other speakers.

Agreed. Or get an A3-250 for $400 (they are in stock).

The HSU VTF-1 is also in your price range:
http://hsuresearch.com/products/vtf-1.html

And for just a little over $500 shipped you should be able to get an SVS PB10

Another option would be to spend a little less money and get a PA-120 or a BIC F12 (both are under $230 shipped).

ed has run into a few issues (break in, paint gun breaking, etc) that got these delays so long. if you check out there blog and such your see it looks like they got alot of the kinks sorted out.

that said if you need to save up for a projector and receiver still you may as well order the sub too.

ive been on the list for just over 2 weeks now but i still have to save for the receiver and such so im not in a huge hurry.

and i saw your question in the other thread but yes they will charge the cc before it ships in case you were still wondering

I was also looking at that, but the sub looks a little deep.

PA-120? The BIC F12 looks promising. Is it any good though. 12" only for less than $250 shipped; very tempting.

I have a projector already. I'm looking for a projector screen. I dont like charging my credit card unless I can pay it off by end of month. Thanks for answering my question regarding the credit card.

The F12 is the newer version of the BIC-100 which is a good subwoofer and probably great for your situation (small bedroom with neighbors). The BIC-100 was designed by Dr. HSU, and if you read the review threads the BIC-100 and F12 get solid reviews for the price paid.

I have seen the F12 for under $200 shipped recently at Beach Audio.

I have the eD A2-300 and love it, but for a smaller sized bedroom the F12 should be more than up for the task.

I'd recommend the A2-300. It can be tempting to skimp out and get something cheaper because your room is small, and you might end up being totally satisfied. My own experience is that you're better off getting a slightly better sub now that can comfortably reproduce HT soundtracks at your desired listening levels. Though I'm sure the PA-120 and the F-12 are decent budget subs, the A2-300 should be a sizable step up in just about every category. At $350 shipped it's a heck of a deal.

I was thinking the same thing. I never really had an awesome sub. I bought the Microvee for my parents and while it sound good I think it was too small for the living room we have. When I saw the price of the a2-300, I thought it was really affordable. I think I'll just wait and see how the delay issue play out.

The A2-300 is the best sub I have owned, and it performs very similar to the SVS PB10 but for about $150-170 less (after shipping costs are calculated for the PB10).

I waited 4 weeks (they were backordered because the sub was just so popular and they could not build them fast enough) for my A2-300 about 1.5 years ago, and it was well worth the wait. Again, unless you go DIY, you are not going to find a better sub in this price range, so you have to decide if the wait is worth it for you. For me it was.

The other thing to consider is that if you do move down the road you will have a sub that can fill a pretty big space and will not have to worry about upgrading again down the road. My A2-300 easily fills my 15x17 room and then some.

I very seriously doubt the delay issues will ever play out completely. The A2-300 has had wait times since it was originally released except for maybe a short period of time here and there. If you're sold on it you mise well place the order and get in line, otherwise if you're waiting for instant shipping I don't think that's going to happen and you'll just keep waiting.

ED is a well respected company and will treat you right so if that's the one you want I'd advise placing the order so you can get in line and get it as soon as possible. They are also easy to get in touch with either via online chat from the website or by phone if you have any questions.

I've owned the SVS-PB10-ISD and now the PA-120. The PA-120 is a much better sub for music. It's not even close, really. Your application is primarily cinema, though, so I don't have a great feel. I do know the Cherry color of the PA-120 is an almost dead-ringer for the Dark Apple color of the iQs, if you happened to have chosen that.

Oh, so they always had long delay. Since you guys all love it, I might have to purchase it! I gotta take care of some bills first and will be in line like everyone else. Thank you for all the help so far. You guys are awesome.

My Kefs are black. Black goes well with everything. Good to know about the PA-120 being great for music. I'll keep that in mind for the future.

i just picked up the pa-120. It is rated as better than the h-100 (the f-12 is a cosmetically stripped down h-100). A seller whom sells both subs rated the pa-120 as better than the h-100 even though the h-100 costs more. Also, the seller is willing to go down in price if you talk to him.
