Don't know if it's a mistake or not but L4D2 now appears on EA's website.
Thoughts?

I'd call that a "mistake" until we hear something more definite.

The listing is gone, so I'm going with database error.

EA's done ports for Valve in the past (Orange Box) so I wouldn't rule it out as impossible. Valve may hate programming for the PS3 but now that they know this franchise moves units it wouldn't make sense for them to not commission a port of L4D2 for the PS3. That's a large chunk of the market to ignore.

Personally I wish Valve would release their games on the PS3 with support for mods. Valve games are typically just as famous for their mods as they are the greatness of the core games. MS may take issue with free user created content but UT3 seems to indicate Sony embraces it. As much as I loved L4D on the 360 the PC version was a million times better because of all the incredible user created stuff. This is all wishful thinking of course but I'm surprised Valve doesn't see the value in a console that supports the mod community whether they hate the architecture or not.

Unfortunately, L4D2 will not be coming to the PS3. EA wants it to come, however, Valve is not looking for employees to do the port.

It's the same issue/reason as to why Left 4 Dead did not come to the PS3 last year.

Seems odd that EA wouldn't just have a team port it; they already have a ported version of the Source engine from the Orange Box, so they even have a bit of a head start. Microsoft must've given them a pretty big moneyhat or something.

As for Valve, I wouldn't want them doing the port. I also don't want them doing L4D2 period, just like I was upset when I heard about L4D. FINISH EPISODE 3 ALREADY, DAMMIT.

Well, I was more interested in seeing that Crysis 2 is comming out on the consoles. Similarly very interesting move that they plan on releasing Battlefield 2 at or around the same time as CoD. I think that is a mistake. They should release Battlefield in the spring of 2010.

There's a CoD coming out this year? I thought it was just Modern Warfare 2.

I think Battlefield: Bad Company 2, which is the game I think you're referring to when you say "Battlefield 2", will do just fine. As far as I can tell, they haven't set a concrete release date for it yet.

Ya, I know that they took out the prefix. The bottom line is that the game is not new, it is a CoD game (the game play mechanics will be exactly the same as it was for CoD2, CoD3, CoD4:MC, CoD5:WaW)), and Infinty Wards success is because of the CoD tag. Most retailers are pre-selling the game with the CoD prefix attached, makes sence, as people will buy the game blindly if they know it is a CoD game. Lets see how long it takes before Activision markets the game as a CoD game despite IW's attempts to disassociate itself from the franchise.

Lol, I knew that activision would make them use the prefix again. The official name of the game is Call of Dudy: Modern warfare 2. (might as well of just called it Call for duty 6). http://www.gamespot.com/news/6213177.html

A game that was designed to be played and replayed many times as a coop experience was dull when played alone? What a shocker.

I'd imagine that EA doesn't own any rights to this game aside from publishing on the platforms of Valve's choosing, in other words they can't port the game over without Valve's blessing. After the beating the PS3 version of Orange Box got, with its ~12 point lower Metacritic score and the PR hit Valve took, I doubt they are willing to give EA another whack.

It's not about getting "Valve's blessing"; it's about getting Valve to ask them to do it--and Valve has already stated that they will absolutely not do that again.

Valve's current position is that if anyone's going to do a port, it's them. Since they have no intention of doing a port anytime soon, well, you can safely assume that no one else will either.
