I picked up SF anniversary collection Ps2 version knowing that my 60gb PS3 has backwards compatibility or so I thought. I havent played a ps2 game in my ps3 in a very long time. So I put in the game trying to scratch my SF 3 itch and no dice. Ps3 recognizes its ps2 format game, soon as i try to start it up I get nothing but a blank screen and my controller turns off. I have the ps2 utility downloaded its from almost launch day dont know if there is a newer one or not, so I have no idea what the problem is. Anyone have any ideas?

Mine usually turns off the controller as well, I just hit the PS button and it turns back on. The only game I had problems with was one of the Hitman games. If I kept hitting the PS button to skip the intros it wouldn't load, so I had to sit and watch each developers into then I could play the game.
Ya mine is comletely blank.
Hmm... I've never had an issue with a blank screen, but the controller has always turned off. Exiting the game and going back into the XMB turns off the controller too. I thought that was normal.
Did you ever get the game to work?

Google is your friend:
Hyper Street Fighter II Anniversary Edition: The screen will not appear correctly in some instances. The S.F.II Movie cannot play properly.
also, check http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/CompatibleStatus
As Sony has said, it's not 100%, but close. Some games cut corners and tapped hacks that Sony never supported.

there are some TVs that the PS3 doesn't play exactly so nice with and old PS2 games have sound but no video - I had a JVC set that did this and some older Samsung DLPs were reported to not play nice with HDMI syncing.
The way to bypass this is the component cable set-up into your tv

I offer similar experience, with my 60gb Ps3 hooked up to my JVC tv I have occasionally had handshake hiccups while starting ps2 games. Generally they all loaded on the second attempt. Haven't played that many though so it may vary depending on the game.
Ok, Ive now tried using component cables and Guitar Hero and still no go, I have no idea what to do next.

You can't play ANY of the PS2 Guitar Hero games on the PS3. They don't work with the newer guitar controlers, and since there's no PS button on the original guitars, you can't get in to the games. I tried multiple adapters to see if my old PS2 guitars would work, but nothing did the trick. The best you can do is just pick up Guitar Hero: Smash Hits if you want to play some of those older tracks.
No actually wastn wanting to play GH, but was just testing my ps3 w/ the game to see if my ps3 would play it and no dice. My 60gb Ps3 will not play any ps2 games.
