View Full Version : Help me choose: BIC F-12, DUAL L12SW, Dayton Sub-120 or ??
VegasRph 06-21-09, 05:00 PM Hello everyone!
Looking for ADVICE on which BUDGET 12" SUB to purchase. Right now, I am leaning towards the BIC America F-12 SUB (for $171 shipped from PCrush) and it seems to have very similar specs when compared to the beloved BIC H-100 model.
BIC F-12 Specs:

The DUAL L12SW seems decent as well, and is LESS expensive. Around $120 to $150 shipped.
The Dayton Sub-120 looks ok, but maybe a little cheaply made compared to the other two subs?
It is priced at $155 shipped.
Any other thoughts on a NICE 12" HT SUB for around $150-$175?? Please, share them with me.......GOOD & BAD!!!
THANKS!!!!

Ooooops! Sorry.
It is my MAIN living room. It has 3 CLOSED walls......the would be 4th wall is OPEN to my kitchen/hallway.
The living room is: 24' x 20' (carpeted)......then "spills" into my kitchen which is pretty large as well (22' x 18').
Right now I have an older Onkyo 10" sub from an older HTIB. It sounds "ok" but now I have the itch for a 12" SUB.
sickboy013 06-21-09, 06:13 PM Out of the 3 you posted I would go with the F12.
Jakeman02 06-21-09, 07:05 PM My experiences with the Sub-120 and Bic H-100(a similar version of the current F12) are from a few years ago but I didn't like the Sub-120 at all. It had lots of output, probably more than you'll get anywhere near the price but no matter what I tried, placement, different calibration, constant tweaking, trying anything and everything I could think of and recommended, standing on my head, yelling curse words it remained one noted and muddy sounding with no definition. If you want loud booms it's your sub but with anything else such as music it left me very disappointed. It remains my least favorite sub I've tried to date.
The H-100 was imo one of if not the best all around choices at the price point. Good low end extension combined with good definition and output in it's price range. Between them I'd go for the F12 no question.
check out the ACOUSTIC AUDIO HD-SUB12 over in the www.blu-ray.com forum.. lots of happy customers.. 198 each..
also the PREMIER ACOUSTIC PA120... in the bluray forum and this forum,,, at 230 each.. lots of happy customers there aswell..
i personally have dual pa120's and i love them.. my space is larger than yours and the dual subs fit me just fine.. great for movies and good for music..
VegasRph 06-22-09, 03:02 AM Thanks for all the replies.
I live in Las Vegas, I did contact the Ebay seller on the PA-120 Sub and since it ships from Las Vegas........for $229.........I could come by and pick one up for $199.
Now, I have to decide between the BIC America F-12 & the PA-120.
The Acoustic Audio HD-12 sounds/looks good on paper.......almost unreal for the $198 shipped price (just saw an Ebay auction end on an HD-12 for $133 shipped!!!!!!!! WOW)
I did check out that forum & there are many happy owners.
Tough decision.
Between the BIC F-12, PA-120 OR The HD-12........is there a CLEAR winner? Or would any of these be fine???
Jakeman02 06-22-09, 03:40 AM Between the F12 and the PA-120, if you can get them for basically the same price I'd go for the PA-120. They are basically the same performance but the PA looks a little nicer with the gloss on top. I personally wouldn't pay any more for it but it's a nicer look.

VegasRph 06-22-09, 10:30 PM I am going to try to decide based on the input from those who posted here.
Right now, I am thinking:
1st choice: BIC F-12
2nd choice: PA-120 sub
3rd choice: Acoustic Audio HD-12 (if I get brave & want to try one)
I can't see how I could go wrong with choice 1 or 2.

Just on the OUTSIDE. They make a Cherry/Black combo finish & an ALL BLACK finish (which I would choose). It does look nice......and it seems very well built......and HEAVY (according to weight on specs).
Why?? Is there something I am missing??
