View Full Version : Problem with Panasonic PT-43LC14: Yellow tint covering most of screen. Convergence ok
shawnmos 06-22-09, 01:57 AM Hi all, my girlfriend's parents just gave me their old Panasonic 43" projection HDTV. They replaced it because the colors are messed up. There is a yellow tint covering all but the upper right hand corner of the screen (which looks normal). They had someone come out to look at it and he told them the color engine (???) was bad and it would be $900 to replace. They had just replaced the bulb a few months previous and didn't want to spend any more money on it.
Anyway since they were going to just toss it I figured I'd take it and see if I can fix it. I'm comfortable taking apart and fixing electronics though I don't know much about projection TVs. I took several pictures so maybe someone here will know something. I'd be willing to spend a couple hundred to fix it but that's it.
shawnmos 06-22-09, 01:58 AM more pics
Just from first glance, it looks like one of the filters got burned; perhaps the blue polarizing filter. Do a search here on this forum ... if I remember right, it can be replaced rather cheaply.
hammerdwn 06-22-09, 09:32 AM The estimate for a light engine is the best you will get from a servicer. No servicer will tear into the innerds of a light engine because too many things can go wrong at that level. Good luck finding a diagram and part numbers for internal light engine parts...
Good luck finding a diagram and part numbers for internal light engine parts...
The diagram and replacement/alignment procedures are located in the Service Manual, which can be obtained from Panasonic for around $30.
The part # indicated is LSXA0600, which appears to be a $200 part.
shawnmos 06-22-09, 02:34 PM I was able to find the service manual for the PT-43LC14-K for free. Is there any difference between the PT-43LC14 and PT-43LC14-K?
Tomwil, are you sure that's the part number for the 43" and not the 60"? The polarizer for the 50" is only $113 so i dunno why this would be more expensive. Perhaps it's more rare.
I think I'm going to go take it apart right now just to confirm that's the part that's broken. I'm assuming it'll look burned?
I was able to find the service manual for the PT-43LC14-K for free. Is there any difference between the PT-43LC14 and PT-43LC14-K?
My understanding is that the "K" manual is more complete than the non-K manual, and assuming your manual is the K web free version, it has the light engine parts that the regular service manual does not have.
Tomwil, are you sure that's the part number for the 43" and not the 60"? The polarizer for the 50" is only $113 so i dunno why this would be more expensive.
If you look at section 17.2 MECHANICAL REPLACEMENT PARTS LIST, you will see that the manual lists two (2) POLARIZER BLUE UNITs. The $113 version is the LSXA0518 made for the PT-60LC14 (see the "C" label and match it up with the table at the top of the page). The models PT-43LC14 and PT-50LC14 use the $200 LSXA0600 (see the "A,B" labels and match it up with the table at the top of the page).
Whether the LSXA0518 can be used in your set is unknown, and might be an expensive mistake if attempted.
Although I have not physically seen a polarizer, I would think that if it is defective it would be discolored. Be aware that there are other polarizers and filters that could be bad also, but it seems the blue polarizer gives the most problems.
shawnmos 06-22-09, 05:02 PM I don't have the parts section of the manual unfortunately so i'll take your word for it. I took the projection unit apart and one of the polarizers is definitely burned. The service manual does say that it's the blue in polarizer although it's not actually blue, it's a reddish pink. I guess that's normal?
I took several more pictures. My camera couldn't get a clear enough picture but there is definitely a fingerprint burned into the polarizer! I don't know if it was there from the factory or if some service person did it, but I believe this is the cause of the failure.
SonyCrusader 06-22-09, 06:22 PM Wow, that thing got TOASTED! Maybe we see the root cause of all the LCOS/SXRD woes?
The service manual for the Sony A3000 (my current weapon of choice) is near useless. No parameter lists, no parts breakdown of the optics block. I mean... come freakin' on, Sony!
By poking around other manuals (their SXRD front-pros) I've noticed that some have a "UV-proof glass" as part of the blue path. Is high UV output from the lamp killing the polarizers? Maybe we can DIY a pre-emptive fix.
Personally, I'd like to retrofit an LED assembly in place of the lamp. More efficient, cool-running... there must be a way...
I don't have the parts section of the manual unfortunately so i'll take your word for it.
If you downloaded that manual where I think you downloaded it from (actually the first hit off of Google), then you do infact have that 17.2 section.
Where you extracted that downloaded zip file, open up the following file in a web browser:
NA\PT-43LC14-K\SVC\navigator.html
It will bring up the table of contents. From there, just click on the 17.2 link, and it should bring up the page where the part numbers are.
Thanks for giving us all the pics!
shawnmos 06-23-09, 01:55 AM Thanks.
I put the TV back together and now it keeps telling me to Select language. I press 1 for english and nothing happens. All it'll let me do is turn it on and off. I was able to get into the service mode but I can't do anything useful. The remote is working. WTH did I do?
edit: Nevermind, i got it. Had something hooked up wrong.
shawnmos 06-23-09, 03:34 PM So I decided to peel off the polarizer film from the glass. It's stuck on there with some heavy adhesive, so I soaked it in goo gone. I was going to try and move the film upward so that more of the transpart portion would be positioned over the LCD.
Anyway it appears the film has 2 layers and I was able to chip off most of the burned top layer. I scraped the rest off with a razor blade, then super glued the polarizer film back on. I kinda damaged it pretty bad with the razor blade so I figured it would look like crap. However I put everything back together and it looks WAY better. It went from unwatchable to bearable. Instead of being mostly yellow, it's now mostly normal with some small yellow blotches on the edges.
I attached some pics so you can tell the difference. (Sonic is actually blue!)
All of this has made me curious to see if I can replace the film for cheap instead of spending $200. I came across this site (http://www.anchoroptics.com/catalog/product.cfm?id=386) which sells small amounts of polarizer film for $6.50. The only problem is I don't know which one to get.

I admire your quest in repairing your TV. Quite remarkable!
Just wanted to mention, that in in this post (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showpost.php?p=16687983&postcount=168) there is a person who got frustrated with his PT-50LC13 and mentions that he might give it away. Not sure if he is near you, but that TV will have the LSXA0518 filter which might work in your TV.
Please let us know of your continuing adventure!
electronictuneup 06-23-09, 06:41 PM Yes this issue is deffinetly a Color Filter burned out, most probably the blue one, since is lack of blue on the image
BenMcEntarffer 07-08-09, 10:29 PM Hello,
My cousin found one of these in the trash demonstrating the same symptoms. It seems that this problem is quite persistent in these models? I too will try to scrape/clean the filter and see if I cannot improve somewhat the color. I do not intend on buying a part to replace, maybe if I can find one in a scrapped unit....
Thanks for posting shawnmos, you saved me a good hour or two of poking around troubleshooting!!
MoVieBoY_HD 07-10-09, 07:19 PM I am having the same issue after my kids unplugged the TV twice in one day. Can someone share the Service Manual for the PT-50LC14? I think a $100 part is way better then spending $1,000+ for a new TV (although I'd love a new TV). Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
gra2wish 07-15-09, 12:04 PM Does anyone have a remedy for this? From the light sequence chart kindly posted by Tomwil, my PT-50LC13 apperently turns off because of forced cooling. My TV will produce a normal picture for approx. 30 secs, then turns off. The power button blinks red indefinitely, the lamp blinks every five secs and the front fan runs forever. I had the ballast and lamp replaced two years ago. I have vacuumed out the fan/filter device at the front, just to the right of the lamp hatch. I have ordered the ballast kit and will install the components upon arrival, only because it's an inexpensive option with which many posters on this site have had success. Anyone know of a more specific solution to the forced cooling option?
I will not purchase another Panasonic product again, as my own protest over these wide-spread bad experiences with this dog-turd TV.
rickwhoo 07-28-09, 03:09 PM I have the same problem with mine. I would love to find one in the garbage so I can fix mine.
rickwhoo 07-28-09, 03:12 PM My filter looks exactly like yours. How can I post pix?
shawnmos 07-29-09, 02:04 AM Click Post Reply and at the bottom of the message window there is something called Manage Attachments.
rickwhoo 07-29-09, 05:52 PM Here is what mine looks like. Very similar. Thanks
shawnmos 07-30-09, 12:18 AM Yep, exact same problem.
John McKay 08-03-09, 07:52 PM I have A Panasonic Pt-50CL14, great to this point, only one bulb replacement in 4 yrs. I just started to see yellow in the bottom left side of the screen. I need a polarizer filter that goes after the blue filter on a Panasonic 3-chip rear projection TV (PT-50LC14). What the H---- is the proper part number for the filter, or the whole filter assembly, with blue filter and polarizer filter in a white plastic holder. Part #LSXA0518 or LSVQ0070.
Will work in these TVs also PT-50LC14.
My polarizer filter is burnt, causing a yellow blob where the filter is burnt.

bdoyle1 08-03-09, 08:15 PM Shawnmos, please post back if you tried to replace the polarizing film yourself, I was recently given the same model myself by inlaws with the same problem! Your pictures and comments along with info. from Tomwil have been invaluable, I might try this myself, thank you!
Duane123 08-05-09, 06:59 PM Whether the LSXA0518 can be used in your set is unknown, and might be an expensive mistake if attempted.
Been there, done that !
Panasonic only sells the
whole light engine for the PT50LC14. The polarizer unit for PT50LC13 can be
made to fit, with a small modification.
Compare the new polarizer unit to the old polarizer unit it may need some
plastic removed around the screw area (tabs on each side of screw), so the
circuit board will go back in place!

Also check out my reply to a post further down (rear projection units).
All of this has made me curious to see if I can replace the film for cheap instead of spending $200.
I too an interested to see if there is another fix for this TV. My TV is exibiting the same systems, only one year later after replacing my blue polarizing unit !

Bearacuda 08-12-09, 03:11 AM Hello all, new to this site and darn glad i found it. Had this tv for roughly 4 years and i love it. But, I always wondered how long the bulb would last, then the other day the lamp warning came on and thanks to you folks I see the bulb has out lived its estimate, 10,034h and 2,452 LON and still going. This is the kicker, I turned it on today and the HDMI input is black with no sound. It seems the other inputs still work since i can watch tv via a standard cable input, dvd player, etc...Cant be the bulb right? Any ideas out there?
Esco2719 08-27-09, 07:54 PM how to remove assembly for panasonic pt-50lc14 for film. got yellow screen.
Duane123 09-10-09, 03:13 PM My TV is exibiting the same systems, only one year later after replacing my blue polarizing unit !
After replaced the blue polarizer filter on my TV I discovered that that was not the problem. Still trying to figure out what the problem is !
Duane
shawnmos 09-10-09, 03:46 PM It looks like you replaced the wrong polarizer. The one that's physically blue doesn't polarize blue light but red light. So you need the red polarizer.
shawnmos 09-11-09, 01:03 AM Would anyone who replaced this part be willing to send me their old polarizer?
shawnmos 09-16-09, 02:59 AM Well I bought the part for the 50" and used it in my 43". As Duane123 stated, I just needed to cut off some of the plastic at the top to get it to fit. It looks much much better now, but there is some slight blue ghosting going on. I tried adjusting the polarizer but no luck. :-/
I have the PT-50LC14 and i have the yellow tint issue also for quite a while now. I want to fix the issue but I need to see which has failed. I tried for the past hour searching online for the manual and could not find it anywhere. Would anyone be able to please send me the service manual so that I can take this apart? Please PM me. Thanks in advance.
Duane123 09-28-09, 05:25 PM I am also now having a little light blue hazing and yellowing in a couple places. The last time I had my TV apart I noticed the green polarizer filter looked slightly burnt.
I have one on order. I will post the outcome.
Duane123
bdoyle1 09-29-09, 08:25 PM FYI thought I would share my experience, I followed what shawnmos did, took apart, got into light engine and removed blue filter (was burned just as many have posted pictures), scrapped it, cleaned to best of my ability and reassembled, was MUCH better, however not quite just right (too much blue), so I made decision to buy replacement filter approx. $200. Part was on backorder for many weeks, finally came in. I thought it looked not as dark as should be but installed it nonetheless, was far worse than before, picture looked complete "Blue wash", I suspect there was NO polarizing film on lens from factory, long story short had to return part but I beleive in looking at link to polarizing film supplier that link shawnmos posted the "vermillion" color has to be the right one for this filter, as it appears identical to the burned film that I removed and there are only only a few polarizer shades as choices to pick from, I am going to buy an LCD TV, but for $6.50 am going to try and replace the film myself on this one and salvage the unit as it had a great picture.
Duane123 09-30-09, 07:26 PM bdoyle1,
When my TV had the complete blue wash, I discovered the ribbon cable to the blue LCD had snaped open some how. When I reseated the ribbon and snaped the clip shut, I now longer had the blue washed screen!
If there was a polarizing film on the lens, it would have a redish tint to it.
Duane123
bdoyle1 09-30-09, 09:19 PM Duane123, thanks for the information! It's quite possible I pulled the ribbon cable loose as I am new to this, however I re-installed my burned filter and it was back to same, as I did not disconnect any of the three ribbon filters in the light engine as was not necessary, only main ribbon filter from board to tuner, but will defininitly look into this, thank you!
shawnmos 09-30-09, 11:45 PM It seems as though you may have ordered the wrong polarizer.
bdoyle1 10-01-09, 09:59 AM Ordered pn# LSXA0600 blue polarizer, part was marked/identified as such, I believe it lacked film or at minimum did not have proper layers.
juswalsh23 10-11-09, 06:30 PM just curious what color films are needed to replace the 3 filters at the anchor optics site? and what kind of adhesive did you use to reglue the film on the filter?
juswalsh23 10-17-09, 06:47 PM did you ever find what color polarizer film to get for your panny? i would def rather pay 20$ for polarized film than 120$ for a piece of $%!% part that will only last a year.
biscuit83 10-18-09, 10:16 PM I am so glad I found this. I also have a pt-50lc14 with green spots that seem to be getting progressively worse. I do not have a service manual but am good at tinkering with electronics and such. Can anyone point me in the direction as to where the light engine even is? I have a feeling one of the filters is burnt on my TV as well and I'd like to check. Thanks.
juswalsh23 10-22-09, 12:12 AM does anybody have any of these polarizer filters that they would be willing to give away? i was given this tv set for free and don't want to put any money into it if it might burn out in another year...just thought there was probably someone here who said effe it and is done with this panasonic piece of dog turd????
I also have the same exact problem with my blue polarizer for my PT-43LC14. Before I found this forum I did try to clean the spot but after looking at the film through a loop I discovered it is burned into the filter, it actually melts into it. It is crazy that the blue filter would be $200, one would think you would get the unit for that. I tried to find a parts manual to find the correct part number but no luck, I do have the service manual but no parts listed. If anyone finds a parts manual please share with us where to find it online. Also where are others finding the filter material? I would be willing to make a new one.
bdoyle1 11-30-09, 07:45 PM PN# is LSXA0600 for blue polarizer, for PT43LC14, if you will read entire thread you will see there is a service manual (free) you can download (google it), I think user Tomwil explanied where to find parts list, I did it, it's in a separate file within that load. I had intended to replace the film myself and may when I get time just to see if that works, but since got a sweet Vizio 42 lcd so that's on back burner, good luck and post back.:)
chuckrcheese 12-07-09, 11:34 AM I also have the PT50LC13 and purchased it in 2002, have 28000 Hours on it and perfect picture with a yellow spot on it, I removed the LCD unit and found the same burn on the one labeled as blue in the service manual and the lense looks pinkish red to my eyes... the other 2 look ok but a little dark.
3D glasses would the red or blue lense work or real 3D polerized lenses from RealD or Disney 3D? I have 200 pair of these and there just a little bigger than the one in the tv it can be cut. lol im thinking outside the box...
I will post all things I did to bring it back when I get it up, its sitting all apart on the bench as of now.
Thanks!!
chuckrcheese 12-11-09, 09:50 PM Update:
Got the blue filter, picture if perfect!
Was not hard to take it apart or put back together at all...
Go slow and take your time cables only go in one place...
Thank you everyone here !
Cheers!

Did you use the blue or the red lance of the 3D polarized glasses? And do you have some photos how to take the light engine out? I have the same problem with my pt-43lc14, and I don’t have the service manual. I tried today to take off the light engine but it looked very complicated. I didn’t want to make the picture even worse, and that’s why I didn’t wont to take the whole thing apart. So if you can share little bit more info how can I get to the blue polarizing filter, and how can I improvise the solution, would be great. Thank you.

I went ahead and ordered the blue lense kit from panasonic.
if you take off the lower back there is a silver case thats the power supply, on the right is the bulb and exaust fan, all come out, start with the power board, then the fan, then the lamp unit and lcd unit all come out together, there is a cable on the left side short silver be carefull its short and I broke mine it was a 26$ boo boo... look in this thread for the service manual its posted. And sorry I used the pictured from here.
if you have ever taken apart a vcr or tv b4 and made it work you can so this,

juswalsh23 01-14-10, 11:48 AM i tried shawmos' link to http://anchoroptics.com/catalog/product.cfm?id=386 , i ordered the vermillion 2" x 2" filter (which is the blue polarizer). it came in the mail, i cut it to size, replaced the old burnt filter, and wa la, it looks GREAT! I've only had it going for a couple days now, so there's a chance that this new filter could burn easier/faster than the former, but so far so good. This tv was given to me for free, so i didn't want to sink any money into it, but for $15 in parts and diy labor it works fine. i know that the former user also left this tv on a lot and with projectors that's a HUGE NO NO! (i'm guessing this is a potential cause for the burn). Good luck to all and i hope this helps! Thanks Duane123 for your help too!
juswalsh23 01-14-10, 11:51 AM vermillion is the color you need for the blue polarizer filter:
Here's the part number:AX27803 2" x 2" 42 Vermillion 2/pk $6.50

bdoyle1 01-20-10, 08:46 PM Congrats juswalsh23, excellent, can you tell us how you applied the film, did it have adheisive on it or did you apply something yourself? Thanks and congrats again!
xuniman 02-14-10, 12:28 PM I just want to say thank you to everyone on this thread. I just replaced the burnt filter with the Anchor Optics vermillion in my PT43LC13 and it looks great. No telling how long it will last but for now I'm very happy.
korpsgryndr 02-20-10, 09:18 PM After reading this thread I took apart my own PT43LC14 to replace filter. Now I have red on the left side of the screen..has anyone else had this problem?
cololitig8or 02-27-10, 10:42 AM I'm new to this thread. A couple of days ago our condo building experienced a momentary power spike and since then my PT-43LC14 has an overall yellow-green color at normal tint setting and no red color (everything that should be red is brown). I can adjust out the yellow green tint by decreasing the tint adjustment all the way down but no adjustment restores the red. Is this a burnt filter issue? Also, now the aspect adjustment does not work; can only get full aspect. Any thoughts on that? Thanks.
chuckrcheese & xuniman; How did you apply the polarizing film to the glass lens?
Sorry, I mean juswalsh23 and xuniman
I am also very interested in how the vermillion filter was applied. I have ordered the filter from anchor optics. I am hoping it can fix this TV. Thanks for the help everyone.
ChuckF. 03-06-10, 08:25 PM The format of that manual is weird, and I think I got mine from the same place you folks did. After you unzip the files leave them all in the folder, don't rename any of them or throw them out no matter how trivial they look. Look for a file called 'navigator.html' and open only that file.
It's not a 'Netscape Navigator', it's a little html file that will open in your browser that sets up a clickable table of contents with which you access all the other files. I could not find a parts list without using the navigator file.
That aside, the Panasonic s/m is fantastic compared to some of the junky s/m's I've seen. It actually has a block diagram showing the light path inside the optical engine.
I have one for a Zenith that's written in Chinglish and doesn't have half as much detail as the Panasonic. Makes me more likely to buy a Panasonic than a Zenith/LG.
I got the filter from anchor optics today. I'm going to try and fix the yellow/green tint on my PT-50LC14 tonight. I hope this works!
Just wanted to let everyone know this worked 100% with the filter from anchor optics. I just cut the filter to size and put everything back and now my TV looks just like the day i bought it. GOOD BYE YELLOW TINT!!! Thanks so much to everyone who posted on this thread.
Rivlez; How did you apply the filter to the glass lens?

ShilohG 06-06-10, 12:16 AM Wow, practice makes perfect, eh? :p
Could you post where you got the parts from (if you haven't already, I forget it's been so long since I last read this thread).
Thanks!

yovinny 06-19-10, 03:21 PM I've been following this thread and others have the same problem with the blue polarizer. I bought the 2x2 vermilion filter from Anchor Optics got the service manuals downloaded and Im ready to go but I cant find the last piece of this puzzle how is this lens replacement attached and held in place? I don't want to get this thing opened up and apart and not be able to keep it in place.
All the posts I have seen say this resolves the problem this one question about attaching the filter from Anchor is never answered. I have seen the suggestion of super glue but I would like to hear from some one that has actually done this repair successfully.
I can build a computer but I have never taken on a TV so I want to be prepared for this project.
yovinny 06-19-10, 05:04 PM How do you apply the filter from Anchor Optics to the glass lens?
azwiley1 07-24-10, 10:59 PM Is anyone still watching/reading this thread?
I just replaced the polarized as outline in the thread on my PT-50LC14 and now everything that should be white is yellow.
Yes I am sure I replaced the correct one as it was the only one with a burn mark and was where the service manual showed the blue filter.
Did I install the new filter in backwards, is it the incorrect color?
the_int21h 08-17-10, 12:47 PM Ok, I just did this fix and it works like a charm. I went with the anchor optics filter and decided to forgo scraping the glass and gluing it on and just cut the filter to size (the whole original piece of glass) and stick it in the holder. Anchor Optics shows the filter to be able to cut UV wavelengths 280-380nm. Besides, I think the second piece of glass is the actual UV filter. So anyways, how has this filter held up for those of you that have used the Anchor Optics filter? I know that you may not have done what I have and glued it, but either way is it still holding up?
yovinny 08-18-10, 04:39 AM Right on brother this is exactly the last piece of the puzzle that I had been looking for i'm going to try this in the morning I was not sure about the crazy glue on the lens suggestion and this secret seems to be more guarded then the gold in Fort Knox. I waited long time for this answer. Considering that this seems to be a common problem and obviously a design flaw on Panasonic's part is the why has there not been a demand by people like us that paid a lot of $$$$$ for this TV to get Panasonic to address this issue or at least spring for the cost of the replacement part. The internet is a powerful consumer tool if used properly.
the_int21h 08-19-10, 02:09 PM Well, I've run the television through the paces - 10 hours a day for two days and it seems to be holding up fine. Yovinny, I would suggest to wear nitrile/vinyl gloves and clean the filter really well with alcohol before you put it back in... you don't want oil from your skin to ruin the filter... Don't forgot to take off the protective film either! I still would like to hear from others that have used this longer. I still have enough material to fix it another 6 or 7 times, but I hope I don't have to. Let me know how it goes.
ShilohG 08-19-10, 02:17 PM the_int21h:
A couple of questions: Did you remove the original lens and replace it with the new one, or just place it in the holder with the old one?
What was the part number for that particular filter? I had it written down but can't find it, and there's a lot of pages to search through again, so if it's no trouble for you...?
EDIT: Found the page, but what color was it?
the_int21h 08-19-10, 02:37 PM Ok, when I took out the filter, there were two pieces of glass - one clear (the UV filter I guess) and the other one burnt and kind of yellow (the blue polarizer). I took the vermilion filter and held it up to the light with the original filter and turned it to figure out what the orientation of the replacement should be. When twisting it, you should see blue through the filters and not magenta. I then took the burnt glass out and laid it on the vermilion filter with the protective film still on it and lightly traced it out with a pencil - making sure to keep the orientation right. I cut the new filter just inside the lines I just drew, made sure it would fit in the holder, removed the protective film, cleaned it well with alcohol, and put it back in the holder and reassembled the television. Like I said before, be sure to use gloves. If they're powdered, put them on and clean them well with alcohol and then go about working on the light engine and filter. That's about it really, but if you have any other questions, please ask.
ShilohG 08-19-10, 02:45 PM That's pretty much the step-by-step I needed. Thank you. :D
Now to make sure I can order the filter in Canada from Anchor...
It was the 2" x 2" 2-pack, right?
the_int21h 08-19-10, 02:49 PM Yup. More than enough to do it several times. I would suggest to keep the old filter just in case - I've got it in the envelope with the left over film taped inside the front cover of the tv. Plus, if you have to do it again, you can make the filter ahead of time. Good luck!
ShilohG 08-21-10, 02:47 PM Out of curiosity, yovinny, how'd you make out? Did it work for you?
jtinger 08-29-10, 09:17 AM I followed various links and downloaded the manual. Decided to go with the Anchor optics film. Here is the bottom line from me.
First time I took the TV apart, it took a philips screwdriver (actually I used a battery powered on), a vacuum, and canned air. I found lots of dust in the optics, so I completely opened up the optics and cleaned the first two lens and blew the small bits of dust out the rest the lens/mirror area. Just a note, if you don't want to disconnect the 3 ribbon cables from the LCD device, you can take out the LCD device and the circuit board as one piece, disconnect the two little white plugs and remove the 4 screws holding the circuit board and the 4 screws holding the LCD unit in.
I found the "Blue filter" charred as shown in other posts. So I clean it up a bit and put the whole thing back together.
After I received my "film" from Anchor optics, I took my TV apart again.
The Film is not a film. It is a piece of colored plastic, and does not need to be glued. Just cut it to the correct size and pull out the old filter and put in the new piece. Don't forget to pull off the protective plastic off of each side of the filter.
End result - My TV is much brighter and the blue is very vivid. Overall, this a better than the blotchy yellow that I had before. Maybe some day I will spend the money and get the correct part, but for the cost, approximately $20 and my own time, I am happy.
Time and confidence and $20 was all it took. To all, this is the route I would go and not just order the real part until you have proven to yourself that you can get the TV pulled apart and put back together and it still works.
Good luck!
mikepatelli 09-14-10, 05:23 PM I have the PT-43LC14, just boguht it yesterday for 200$, probably overpayed but I needed something with VGA input because I use it as a computer screen, yesterday it was fine, today i turned it on and it was dark and seems to have a pinkish redish tint, but im not sure if its a color filter or just the bulb, because i went into service mode and it said total bulb time 3800 hours, and in the picture settings, picture had to be all the way up with brightness 80% up and gamma on high to have a good picture, so id assume maybe the bulb was getting dim? and today it just ghave out. Im going to post a pic of the picture ..
PLEASE HELP

mikepatelli 09-14-10, 06:41 PM New update in my issue, everything thats green is dark or black, nothing green is showing up at all. Any ideahs? if its the color filter, how do i get to it? i have the front dissassembled where the projection unit and the lamp are, and BTW the light i can see from the projection unit is purple and it used to be a pure color. Any advice would be great!
I have the PT-43LC14 ... yesterday it was fine, today i turned it on and it was dark and seems to have a pinkish redish tint
Appears that one of your LCD panels is not working. Resolution could be as simple as a cable reseat. Or, a bad connection from your PC.
Does this strange color shift happen on another input such as a tuner or DVD player?
mworkman5o 09-30-10, 05:57 AM I to have a Panasonic PT50LC14 that has that yellow film across the left hand side of the screen. Luckily, I stumbled across this web site and I am now waiting for the blue polarized film to come. Thank U everyone for your info and step by step instructions. I also downloaded the manual so hopefully we are able to take this thing apart, fix it, and put it back together. If anyone has any words of incouragement please don't hesitate to comment. I would appreciate all the help I can get!!! Thanks Again

Well, if it helps, I took my TV apart to see if I could, even though I haven't fixed the piece yet. I got it together again and it works, so it can be done.
But I strongly recommend that you either take pics for reference as you take it apart or label the piles of screws that you will remove.
There are a lot, and it can become daunting once you try to put it all back together again and then try to remember which screws went where.
Take your time, slowly remove parts in case they're attached in places you don't immediately see and you should be fine.
And post when you're done so we know how it went!
Good luck!
mworkman5o 09-30-10, 10:39 AM Thanks so much ShilohG for your words of encouragement and your much needed advice. Will do exactly as u have suggested and get back to u when we are done. Do u think we should go ahead and clean the inside out first or wait till we recieve the part before beginning? Thanks so much for your help!!
ShilohG 09-30-10, 11:13 AM I'd just do it all at once when the part arrives. You're memory's fresher if you do it in one go.
bear269 10-01-10, 03:02 AM I would like to try to see if this resolves my issue on my pt43lc14, with all the resources here its too bad nobody has the correct dimentions of the cut. If only we could get someone on this board to have these pieces of film die cut to exact size and sell these amonst board members. I have removed my projector and am at the stage of tear down of projector. I think I should wait for film before I start. Anyone got a piece they could mail me.
bear269 10-01-10, 07:50 PM I just got down into the inner workings of the projector, had bit of tough time removing the air filter, once that was done it was a snap. I only removed the screws to the cba board and didn't disconnect the whole part just moved it to the side so I could access the blue polarizer. I removed it and it was so burnt I that I cant believe I had a picture at all.

Is there any suggestions on removing the vermillion layer on this polarizer, I heard goo gone but any other suggestions would be fine. I dont want to damage the optic material that the vermillion polarizer layer lays on.
bear269 10-02-10, 02:32 AM Still working on it got the old polarizing film removed from glass slide, Im not sure if I need to cut vermillion film and apply to slide or just cut polarizing film to shape and and not use glass slide at all. I bought a can of denaturalized alcohol for 5 bucks at walmart. Seems like its working the rest of the glue off. I'm almost curious if the glue itself is the problem. Seems like the heat made glue bubble between film abit. Sounds like a good idea to not glue it on slide and just cut to exact shape of slide and place in holder.
asandova 10-04-10, 11:51 AM Hi All
I finally got to fix two problems with my Panny, I installed the ballast repair kit parts this weekend and now it turns on/off ok and at the same time I replaced the blue polarizer with the vermillion film from Anchor Optics as suggested in previous posts.
I struggled a bit as I had the 50" service manual and the projection unit is different but I figured it out and I removed the blue polarizer and it was slightly burned, cut the film to size and replaced (no glue necessary as in this model it goes into a white plastics holding fixture where it slides into place (which I had pictures but left my camera)
PT43LC14 Manual can be found here http://www.nodevice.com/manual/newmans/panasonic/PT-43LC14-KNASVCzip/get26686.html
I put it all back together but the colors are off, it looks blueish to me. I had to stop working on as I ran out of time but I was wondering if there is a calibration needed after the film is replace or is there a chance I messed something else. I plan on getting back to it in a couple of weeks so any feedback is appreciated.

:confused:Hello ShilohG. Well my daughters boyfriend took the tv apart today, cleaned it reallly good and then proceeded to take everything apart. Everything went very smoothly. Found the burnt filter and replaced it then put the tv back together. Yellow is gone but the red is really red and the blue is really blue. Tried to adjust everything but had no luck. Do u have any suggestions on what maybe causing this? Thanks for all your help. Will be waiting to hear from u! Thanks Again!!

mworkman5o 10-07-10, 10:14 PM Hello Everyone! Well we took our panasonic PT-50LC14 apart one more time. And low and behold we figured out what was causing our color problem. Here the new filter that we purchased was turned the wrong way when we cut it therefore instead of projecting a blue polarized color it was projecting red. This to us was totally crazy but when u placed the burnt filter on top of the plastic coated vermillion filter one way in the light it shows blue. And when u turn the filter and place the old one again it shows thru as red. So, to anyone who might be having the same problem u need to go back and make sure that u had the filter setting the right way before u cut it. And do not remove the covering from the filter until u double check and make sure that when u place the old filter on top and point it to the light it shows blue and not red. The picture on the tv now looks just like it did the day I purchased it!:) Thanks and good luck to everyone!!

Hi mworkman
Thanks for your updates, I wanted to clarify if you used the vermillion filter from Anchor Optics or the original replacement. I used the vermillion and have the same problem you had so I wonder if I installed wrong as previous posts did not mention orientation to be key. Thanks. :D
bear269 10-08-10, 11:28 AM I have noticed that if you place the vermillion filter against laptop screen you get blue when looking at it against your laptop screen when turning it. it turns blue the most when the sheet is turned up as a diamond shape, if you flip it on its axis you get the opposite color magenta, did most of you cut this at an angle of 45 or degrees, or was the angle a little less than 45 degrees. At a 45 degree angle it either blue on oneside or magenta from the opposite side
bear269 10-08-10, 11:35 AM On another note if you cut the vermillion filter, square from the corners the filter is the neutral in color and show though as purple or pink with film removed
bear269 10-08-10, 01:33 PM I am never able to see the change unless I hold it up to my laptop screen.
bear269 10-08-10, 04:32 PM I was unable to see color changes through direct light, I was able to see color changes when rotated against my laptop screen. What I figured out is that any one of the polarizer in the unit will turn to the darkest color when turned clockwise at a 45 degree angle. Instead of looking for blue, I looked for the opposite magenta when setting up my cut, so when looked at old polarizer headon against laptop screen, i got kindof a neutral color. turn it 45 degrees clockwise and the color turns magenta. 45 degree counter clockwise i'd get blue on the vermillion filter. If you get blue when you look at the cut filter rotated clockwisr 45 degrees and its blue you've cut the piece wrong. There is no need for the original burnt piece of glass at all. Thanks to the board for all you help. I hope this helps others understand the orientation issue as I didn't get it by holding it up to the light. The laptop computer screen helped much more.
bear269 10-08-10, 06:44 PM The colors are looking well, yellow is yellow, white is white, but i'm concerned about the blacks with this fix. Seems like there a little on the dark purple side. Is it just me. I have 2 other t.v.'s 46 lcd 120 mhz, and a 32 inch sony 60 hz lcd flat. Maybe I'm too particular with because of my other tv's

Hi bear269
Thanks for this helpful info, a couple of clarifying questions
1) Did you use the Anchor Optics vermillion?
2) When you check for the color using the laptop screen as the lightsource, do you do it with the film removed or not?
I have extra pieces of vermillion so I have to figure out what you did and cut another piece because currently mine is as others were, too blueish. :(

I did use the anchor optics vermillion
I did it with the film removed, but it doesnt matter. Your just looking for your corner to cut from. Rotate the block of vermillion until you see magenta. when it shows magenta turn the material, counter clockwise by 45 degrees. You should be looking at the piece as a perfect square now. You can cut your slide while the film is in this orientation. you should be able to cut about 4 pieces from the original in this orientation.
bear269 10-09-10, 11:38 AM If screen is slightly blueish...
LIGHT IN POLARIZER BLUE ADJUSTMENT
1. Loosen a Screw (C) of the Light IN Polarizer Blue Unit.
2. Move the Light IN Polarizer Blue Unit to the right and left
so that there is no blue tint on the whole screen, and
tighten a Screw (C) (0.20-0.23 N·m).
asandova 10-09-10, 11:50 AM Thanks bear269, I won't get to try this until the end of month as this is a TV I have someplace else but I'll post my results.

I did find my color a little blue, after reinstallation of polarizer. I took it apart one last time and adjusted the polarizer using the above procedure. It turned out that when i reinstalled the blue polarizer i screwed it in with not very well centered. after adjusting it to the center a bit I got better black levels
ShilohG 10-09-10, 01:46 PM Wow, this is starting to seem pretty complex.
I was fine with taking out the burned lens, replacing it in its entirety with a new polarizer from Anchor, and putting it all back together.
Now there's cutting the film a certain way or direction, placing it in the right way (i.e. not backwards) and fitting it back in the center.
I didn't see any screw to adjust left or right, and I figured that after it was determined that you didn't need to scrape the old one off the lens (just replace the whole lens/filter) things were simple from there.
Am I over-thinking this?

You may have got lucky cutting your film, if you cut a square from the corner of the rectanglar film. It is possible that it may have been in the right orientation when you started but to verify I would suggest holding up the vermillion to your laptop screen. There are four possible ways you can cut the block rotating the material at 90 degree angle but only one of the orientations will work... I guess you got lucky on the first try. One in four chance. If you want to check just take the left over scrap you took your cut from. if you rotate it from 45 degrees from where you made your rectangular cut from your piece of film will turn dark magenta
The additional adjustment may not be necessary if you placed the blue polarizer in just right and completely centered. the screw when loosened on the blue polarizer, enables the blue polarizer to be shifted left or right. Moving the polarizer left or right will adjust a screen that is bluish in regards to your black levels. The colors may be fine but blacks are important as well.
I inherited a PT-43LC14 with the same problem as described numerous times in this thread, i.e., the yellow tint. It took me a while, but I eventually found this thread and was really happy to find out I cold fix it for less than $20 and a little elbow grease. I ordered the vermillion filter pack from Anchor Optics on the 19th, and was anxiously awaiting the arrival of my package to fix the TV. Well, I received an email from them today (25th) saying they no longer carry that item and it is a mistake it is on their website (even though yo can still order it now!). I have searched the internet to try and find another source of this filter with no luck. Does anyone know of an alternate source?, or have a piece of filter that they wold be willing to sell to me??
Thanks
Ken

Hi Ken
I will get back to re-work my TV this weekend as when I installed the filter I was not aware of the orientation as it has been explained in the last few posts. I should have one piece left after that so send me a PM and we can work something out to help you.
Anel
OK, just confirmed with Anchor that they do have the larger sizes of the filter still available. So an extra $10, but well worth it.
Thanks so much, but can get larger version.
asandova 11-02-10, 05:12 PM Thanks bear269, I won't get to try this until the end of month as this is a TV I have someplace else but I'll post my results.
I got to work on my TV this weekend and thanks to bear269 suggestions was able to re-orient the Vermillion and now my TV is back normal with the right colors and long gone is the yellow in the bottom left corner.
I have a full set of Vermillion from Anchor Optics as they double-shipped in case somebody is interested.
P.S. I'm still having issues with my ballast, I replaced the capacitor and resistor from the repair kit and it worked for a few days and now is back to blinking until goes into red. If I take the light enclosure and re-introduce it followed by a power on 99% of the times it will work. Do I need to install the rest of the kit parts, I was avoiding more soldering as it is not my forte.

Definitely interested.
PM me with your price for the piece plus S&H to Vancouver -area (Canada) and we can work something out.

Can you please tell me what connection you fixed to get rid of language problem. I just changed my polarizer, reassembled, and now I have that problem!
Thanks
Ken
Thanks.
For anyone who does the polarizer replacement, be careful when reconnecting the plugs to the tuner assembly. The smallest connector on the right hand side (facing the back of the TV), will actually go in 2 places. It SHOULD go in the strip at the rear edge where the others go, but can also be connected to another socket slightly further in. If you connect it to the wrong one, you will get the "Select Language" screen when you turn the TV on.
Wasn't too difficult to do as long as you go slowly and keep track of screws. 2 areas I had a little difficulty with:
1. Removing the duct 1 unit: It's not really clear that you need to actually remove the 4 screws holding the filter in and remove the filter to be able to access 2 of the screws holding the bottom duct on.
2. Removing the ribbon cable on the LCD panel: I screwed this one up! - I thought it was a normal kind of push and lock connector, and managed to get the connector out and remove the cable, BUT I broke one of the tiny arms on the side that holds the bar! All you need to do is gently lift the grey/brown tab at the side UP to release the pressure and then the cable will come out. I did manage to get it back in OK, but it's not as secure as it should be.
Otherwise the picture looks great compared to before. I do also have the slight bluish hue in the blacks, but I can live with that for now!
It will be much easier the second time to take it apart should I choose to do so.
joshua0442 11-07-10, 02:41 PM I replaced the polarizer and put the tv back together. Now all I'm getting is a green screen with lines coming down about 1/4 inch apart from each other. I can bring up the tv menu but get no picture and no sound, just the green screen. Anyone have any ideas what I did wrong? Thanks in advance.
joshua0442 11-07-10, 05:22 PM Went back and noticed I broke the bar that holds down one of the ribbons on the lcd panel. It was the one in the center. Now I get a solid green screen with no lines. Anyone have any ideas?
asandova 11-08-10, 06:55 PM Hi Joshua
I also broke one of the small gray bars but was able to put it back carefully as it was only one the sides that broke. Make sure you are putting the ribbon on top of the bar.
joshua0442 11-08-10, 11:21 PM Hi Asandova. Thank you for the response. I made sure and have the ribbon on top of the bar but still, solid green screen. I just don't understand.
splatee 11-09-10, 02:42 PM Don't mean to hijack but I have mitsubishi wd-62527 that has the same issue with yellowing of the screen. I pulled the light engine and my polarizer looks just like others in this thread. Would the Anchor Opticts work in mine also? Could someone post a pic of the Vermilion so I could compare? The tv is about 5 years old and I suspect it has the same lcd setup. Thank you.
DARRINDDD 11-12-10, 02:19 PM Can anyone tell me how to get my picture back after replacing my blue polarizer? I have sound but video.:(:(
ShilohG 11-19-10, 05:05 PM Well, after all of this I finally got the chance to work on my TV today.
Got it taken apart, labeled in a drawing where all the screws came from, made notes as to the order of dis-assembly, and replaced the burned polarizer.
( Just a note for those still confused, the replacement piece is the same thickness as the burned glass piece, so I totally removed the burned piece and place the new piece where it went. No removing and gluing.. just take out and put in the new one)
Got the TV back together, plugged it in and held my breath.
It worked just great!
I think there's a slight blue hue to the picture, but I could just be seeing it differently because of seeing it through a yellow haze for so long.
I'll ask my wife what she thinks, seeing as she hasn't been home all day and will be a fresh pair of eyes.
I may have to try Bear's suggestion later, I just don't feel like pulling it all apart again right now. If no one else is bothered by it I can live with it for a few.
So what would you recommend as the optimal settings for the Picture, Contrast, Brightness etc?
And a huge thank you to asandova for the pieces!
splatee 11-19-10, 09:53 PM I just received the Vermillion polarizer today. Im a bit uncertain on what i s the correct way to cut the film still. I hold it up to the laptop screen and i see magenta when it is in a diamond pattern. Then i turn it 45 degrees counter clockwise and it is a lite blue. Is this where i want to make my cut? Now my original polarizer is not this color? It is the same as what people posted here. Now when people cut their vermillion did it not match the same color as the the original burnt polazier?
Thank you
ShilohG 11-19-10, 10:54 PM Okay, I may be corrected on this, but as asandova marked it for me, cut it square (90 degrees) but make sure the orientation is set up so when you hold it up to the screen straight and tilt it left (counter-clockwise) it turns red, and when you turn turn it right (clockwise) it turns blue.
If you have it 90 degrees wrong (i.e. on its side) when you turn it left it will end up turning blue rather the red you want it to be.
Did that make sense?
splatee 11-20-10, 01:01 PM Did the Vermillion polarizer match the color of the original burnt polarizer when looking at them? The reason i am asking is because i am going to try this on a mits wd-62527 that has the same issue as what people have here. I have the same burnt "blue" polarizer. I am figuring that since both these sets are the same age that they more than likely have the same type of lcd set up.
ShilohG 11-20-10, 01:11 PM They looked different to me, the new one is more 'pink-ish' than the old.
I'm still getting the blue tinge and really don't want to open the whole thing up just to do a minor adjustment. I think I'll try once more, and if it doesn't really make a difference I'll live with the 'blue for black'.

Ok that is what i wanted to know. Thank you for verifying for me :)
edwardsparade 12-02-10, 11:15 AM I have a Panasonic PT50LC14 set. Boughtt in December, 2004. For the past year the yellow tint got progressively worse until it covered most of the screen. In September I started reading this thread and downloaded the manual and bot the filter from Anchor. After installation the display was "bluish" I tried the adjustment of the filter to make sure it was centered. No positive result. I just purchased the correct part from Panasonic LSXA0600 Polarizer Blue Unit. Cost $219. I just installed it and the picture is completely normal just like the day the set was purchased.
The Anchor filter does leave a blue hue to the picture, For instance, the blacks were blue when the letterbox shows on the screen. All of that is gone with the Panasonic part. I also noticed that upon removal, the Anchor filter I installed in mid October has disclored itself in the last six weeks.
My advice, spring for the correct Panasonic part. I purchased the part from Panasonic 800-833-9626. The Panasonic part referenced includes the white holder and two glass filters all preassembled. Just install.
I do not know if this part will fit in other Panasonic TV's

That whole Anchor Optics stuff was started by someone with a 42" tv, admittedly not worth much because of the size, so they didn't want to pay for the Panasonic part. Anyone that has a 50" or over is probably better off to buy the right part, and Panasonic is the only tv vendor that actually sells them for their sets. This particular one I know is fairly expensive for some reason. For later sets like the LCX's they are more reasonable.
A picture of the bleached out Anchor filter would be interesting btw.
cidkramer 12-26-10, 02:50 PM I successfully fixed a friends yellow tint problem on her pt-43lc14-k.
I have the rest of the 5x8 sheet, so perhaps if anyone wants.. I can help them out.
For reference, for the pt-43lc14-k, the filter size is 15/16 x 13/16
If anyone could measure out their filters for the other sizes for this model group, it would be helpful.
Just for tips though, the filter box needs all visible screws to be taken out in order to flip it back to get at the circuit board screws (4 total holding the board down).. to get access to the blue filter which is below the ribbon cable.
For all the people complaining about colour problems.. perhaps you failed to orient the filter properly when you cut it out? You need to mark the original filter to indicate which side was up and then match it at a laptop or lcd screen to see the correct angle to cut at. I was lucky since I could cut parallel to the sides of the filter sheet I bought.
There is definitely a wrong way to cut if you're not careful. Also, I took out both pieces from the filter holder and installed the anchor optics filter in place of the thicker piece which had the burnt part on it. The picture looks great without any odd hues.
I just upgraded to an LCD TV because of my yellow picture. I was going to list on eBay but I remembered this forum. If anyone needs a part from this tv let me know, I will sell parts for a very reasonable price. Again my blue filter is bad; most likely caused by an aftermarket lamp so I would not recomend my lamp. I did have the tv apart so I can send just the individule parts so shipping is cheaper.
Please email me at jafoo@wi.rr.com with any requests or questions. I check the email nightly on week days.
I am located in south east Wisconsin.
Panasonic PT-43LC14
I can send pics if needed.
I to have the notorius Panasonic PT-43:mad:...with the same problems as the rest of the poor souls that spent (too much) hard earned money on what is now considered a piece of junk.
OK so we all know that the Panasonics have a problem with the blue polorizing filter, and have a wide array of ways, and means to fix it "right"?
SO heres the BIG question........
"WHY" does this perticular make and model have this problem? What is the cause? and can it be remedied so as it Won't happen again?
AS a foot note to this perticular Make and model (both PT-43 and 50)
consumer reports has literally thousands of complaints on the afore mentioned problems.SO as to "why" is that "blue polorizing filter" so much more then the others???? EASY....thats the one that goes bad;)......
ShilohG 01-07-11, 01:52 PM I just wish they sold just the polarizing filter separately instead of having to buy the whole unit for $200+.
How much could just that little piece cost?
I've come to terms with the fix I did, but the lamps have come down in price drastically, so if I was able to replace just the filter (not 'fix' it, like I did) and buy a new lamp when the current goes this would make a good second TV for the rec room after I buy my new one this spring.
superlemur 01-15-11, 09:55 PM The reason you have that blue cast in all your dark areas is because you are using a that vermillion polarizer. The vermillion polarizer works if the picture scenes are bright, dark scenes look terrible. I have found a polarizer that works perfect. I cut it to fit the frame and used a touch of epoxy in one corner because it is not mounted on the glass plate like the original. Its been in my set for a month now with no problems noted.
woolcottap 01-16-11, 12:30 AM superlemur-
What color polarizer did you find and where did you purchase it?
ShilohG 01-16-11, 02:32 AM Yes, do share, please.
As I said before, this fix is better than the yellow tinting, but if there's something cheap that will fix it better then please let us all in on it.
superlemur 01-17-11, 09:35 AM The type I used is surplus stock. Very cheap. But you would probably get nailed for shipping and minimum quantity. Send your address to spanner56@aol.com and I will mail you a piece cut to size.
ShilohG 01-17-11, 11:15 AM E-mail sent!
Let me know if you want something for it, and the shipping to Canada.
Does your piece need proper orientation figured out, as well?
superlemur 01-17-11, 09:52 PM Orientation is not a problem. I cut it to size. Sent one to Shiloh, Anel
and Woolcottap. Hope it works for you.
ShilohG 01-25-11, 04:31 PM Got the new piece in the mail today. Thanks again superlemur!
I'll put it in this afternoon and see how it goes, but what type of epoxy did you use? Anything special or just a dot of Crazy Glue?
ShilohG 01-25-11, 06:48 PM Never mind, I was able to clean the original piece of glass (removing the burned piece from the front) and slide the glass + new filter into the holder so it's nice and snug.
The blacks are black again and the picture looks great!
And a note to those who have used the vermillion piece: when I removed the vermillion I looked at it and noticed that there is a definite square that is lighter than the rest of the piece. I figure in a couple more months the lamp would have diluted the piece and it would most likely need to be replaced again.
Just a heads up in case you notice the picture getting worse over time.
ratflinger 01-31-11, 08:05 PM OK - I have the 50" pos. Had it apart 4 times & still can't get it to work (I am a master level electronic tech, but not in TVs). I've had it, going down to Costco & getting a new TV. If someone wants it, you can have it or I will part it out for shipping costs. Near San Antonio.
Throwing the POS away - my Panny plasma looks great
My advice - don't obsess over this TV - go get a Panny plasma - around $600 and enjoy
Hi guys,i have the same problem with the filter ,can some one add here step by step how to instal the filter??,btw i tried to contact superlemur but no luck:( anyone who has an extra piece from him??
thx

great advice about purchasing the original part from panasonic parts. However they are of no help when you need a replacement part. Does any one have a part # for the filter that is causing the problem of the yellow screen. Thanks Genol
thx superlemur for sending me a piece of that polarized film

The part number for the input polarizing filter on the blue path is different for every Panasonic tv. Older ones like the LC13, LC14 seem to cost more than the newer ones like the LCX's, perhaps indicating a weak design that led to a run on parts. You need to get a Service Manual for your set to find the right part number.

Would your polarizer work for Sony RPTVs with yellow tint problems?
The model is KF-E50A10
superlemur 02-18-11, 10:13 AM This polarizer works for the three Panasonic models mentioned in this thread.
mikev6321 02-19-11, 01:43 PM Hey everyone,
This thread has been incredibly helpful, i'm really glad that i found it! ...I managed to get my tv disassembled and found out that i too have a burned out blue polarizer unit... I had a look on Anchor optics for the vermillion film but currently the cheapest piece they have is $38. I'm wondering if anyone here found anywhere else to buy polarizer film or if anyone has an extra piece.
Any help is appreciated,
Thanks
avishoo 02-20-11, 02:27 AM This polarizer works for the three Panasonic models mentioned in this thread.
What is the difference between your polarizer and the Anchor Optic's vermilion polarizer?
I'm guessing it's all in the colour?
superlemur 03-04-11, 08:46 PM The vermillion one should never be used because of blue cast to dark areas. I have sent several pieces already to people on this forum and those that installed it correctly said it works great. As I said before , if you want a polarizer piece cut to size, just send your address to spanner56@aol.com and I will send you one.
ShilohG 09-03-11, 02:13 PM Hey all!
I was just wondering how things were going with everyone's individual fixes.
Do they seem to be lasting, or has everyone decided to just go with a new TV since they seem to be going for so cheap these days?
I have found that my lamp has been getting pretty dark, but the rest seems ok, so I ordered a new lamp from amatteroffax.com for only $75.
How are the vermillion polarizers doing? Have they burned through or are they still looking good?
superlemur, I would like to request a spare piece of the filter you sent me, but I lost your address a while ago to send you some $$.
I figure if the lamp is still ok I may as well ride this TV as long as I can, even as a secondary for my kids.
1irishprince 09-20-11, 01:25 AM ShilohG, How is your fix going with superlemur's piece that he sent you. I just installed mine but still have to replace the ballast tomorrow. Superlemur sent me a piece and was wondering what the lifespan of that little square will be...
Thanks superlemur!
ShilohG 09-20-11, 03:50 PM So far it's going great. I haven't noticed any deterioration in the picture at all.
I just replaced my lamp because the other one was dim to the point I could barely see the picture during the day, but so far it seems fine.
I'll update after a few to see if anything changes because of the new lamp.
1irishprince 09-21-11, 08:39 PM Just got the tv back together and the picture is much better. I originally tore the tv apart to replace the ballast because was shutting off all the time. Long story short....great picture now but still keeps shutting off. Was hoping to be able to fix this set as it still has a great picture. I will do another search on here to see if I can find the culprit. Everytime it shuts off the power LED turns amber and blinks once every 4-5 seconds. No other lights flashing. Hit the power button and the amber light turns green and flashing until the tv turns on as normal. Runs for 5-10 minutes then shuts off again. I'm stumped....
Anyways the yellow and green tinted screen is back to normal!
PT-50LC14 09-25-11, 01:33 AM Awesome thread... thanks to everyone who's contributed. I was able to fix my Panasonic PT-50LC14 this evening after reading through all the tips/tricks and downloading the service manual. My picture is now back to normal.
Like most everyone else I was also experiencing darkish, yellow-brown discoloration in my picture. Only the top corners and maybe a strip about 2 inches along the top looked normal. Seemed to happen pretty much all at once, or at least that's how I noticed it. But it really became evident with bright blue parts of video frames, such as oceans, Avatar's, etc.
Took me about 1 hr to get everything disassembled, and get the accumulated dust from the past 10 years all cleaned up. Then I spent about 30 minutes fuddling with the polarizer film that's fused to the glass. I was shocked at how burned it was (see attached picture after I peeled the film from the glass). I was able to clean all the adhesive residue from the polarizing film off the glass with a little acetone... the wife's fingernail polish remover. Then cleaned everything up with a little alcohol. Just used a very small dab of glue on the four corners of the glass to attach the new polarizer film. A huge thanks to @superlemur for the film, worked like a charm. Then spent the next hour or so getting everything back together. Not bad... took a few hours of effort to save me several hundred $ on a new TV.
sdjosh83 12-08-11, 01:26 PM This thread was great. I too had a growing yellow spot on my screen and it was a burnt blue polarizer. I had NEVER done anything like this before but was able to manage. I recieved the new polarizer from spanner56@aol.com just like he promised. I do suggest finding the appropriate diagrams from the manual as they did come in handy. One problem I encountered, were the LCD ribbon cables. I didn't know how to disconnect them from the clamps, and snapped two of the three clamps (the white sidarms that the brown clamp pivots in). Would have been way easier if I just did a little research. I eneded up wedging the brown peices back in and seemed to hold the ribbons snug enough. Screen works great and yellow is completely gone! My only worry is that the ribbon cables will somehow pop out of the connectors. Anyone have experience with this issue or know of an easy fix? If it will hold, I definitely do now want to go all the way back in to the light engine.
Thanks to all in this thread!
asandova 12-09-11, 05:29 AM Hi All
I fixed my burnt polarizer issue a while back thanks to this thread, now my issue is the ballast. It's an intermittent issue, when it happens I remove/insert the light cassete and it's back in business but that trick is getting old.
They sell a kit to replace certain components to retrofit the ballast but I'm not good soldering. Anybody knows of a 43" TV set that is up for spare parts?
Thanks
MrGlobe 01-29-12, 06:53 PM So I installed a new polarizer, and the picture didn't change at all. A little about my situation:
The PT-50LC14 was purchased about 3 years ago, as an open box return. After less than a year, the picture began to yellow. The owners of the TV did not address the problem immediately, and the problem worsened. It got to the point that there was a fairly bright yellow 'M' shape on the TV at all times, in addition to the yellowish tint that was occurring previously. After about 2 years of the TV being used in it's worsening yellowish state, there is now a blue 'M' shape, in addition to yellowish tinting of the screen. As I stated in the first line, I replaced the Blue polarizer and did not see a difference in the picture. The blue 'M' shape is still present, along with the yellowish tinting. I will be disassembling the TV again tomorrow to see if I can address any other issues, and I will be replacing the bulb tonight.
My question is this: Is it possible that after a few years of being used with the burned polarizer, the actual screen of the TV has the 'M' shape burned-in? I am not sure if DLP TVs have burn-in issues, but I think this could be the problem. I have also heard that people sometime remove a polarizing film on the screen of their RPTVs, so that may be something I look into
Thanks for any insight
ShilohG 01-31-12, 12:43 AM Did you take a good look at the other polorizers? We have all been fortunate that it was the blue one for us, but it might be another one (or two) in your set.
MrGlobe 01-31-12, 02:07 PM I looked at (and replaced) the blue polarizer, although it didn't have any signs of burning on it. I also removed the polarizer on the opposite side, which also didn't show any signs of burning. I did not (because of a time crunch) remove the center polarizer, so it is possible that this is the problem. I will try and get a picture of the screen and what the symptoms look like. It might be good for reference to what happens after 2 years with a burnt polarizer.
I also looked around the net quite a bit, and it looks like the answer to my question about DLP burn-in is a negative. The general concensus seems to be that it would be very difficult to get an image to burn into the screen of a DLP RPTV.
VanGeelD 02-10-12, 05:08 AM Just got the tv back together and the picture is much better. I originally tore the tv apart to replace the ballast because was shutting off all the time. Anyways the yellow and green tinted screen is back to normal!
1irishprince if you haven't found your problem yet my tv had the same problem, and i found out that it is either fan 1 2 or 3 out. fan 1 hardly ever goes out and is the fan in the black case below the projection unit. fan 2 is a small fan on the bottom of the projection unit next to the bulb, and fan 3 is the big fan on the other side of the bulb
