Two-way splitter from Rite-Aid Pharmacy.

The UVSJ maximum insertion loss is rated at 1/2dB or less.

What is the insertion loss of a typical two-way splitter? Can't find that spec ANYWHERE?? Probably too embarassing for them to publish it.

Finally, the writeup on the UVSJ at solid signal contains "amplifier" at least every other word.

MUST the P-M UVSJ combiner be used with a signal amp? I'm just over 30mi from the ESB.

Figure 3.5 dB excluding the likely phasing problems. Read the label or the package, it's usually right there.

THE UVSJ does not care if an amp is used or not. It just passively combines (or splits) the bands to/from the cable.

Common splitters make lousy band combiners/splitters. Use the correct device for best results.

You're preaching to the choir here! ;)

I'm the type who wants to know the specs on the CRAP out there as well as specs on good stuff - like the UVSJ I'm minutes from ordering at solid signal. I just want to know what I'm "gain"ing by replacing suspect items in my chain with quality stuff.

I think any decent quality conventional splitter will be about the same; a few fractions of a dB here and there. The bad ones are just, well, bad. I have a Radio Shack splitter that caused ghosting (on analog) for instance.

Fair warning, Solid Signal shipped me a Holland UVSJ which isnt bad, but spec'd at .7db typical loss, as a replacement for the OOS (for a long time) Pico UVSJ.

There are a couple of places you can find them now, by googling, which wasnt the case last year. Additionally you can get them from Pico.
