If light output too high ... turn down the contrast ... not the brightness.
also ... if there is a back light control .. turn that down first.
If hooked to a computer monitor ... then turn down the contrast from there too via the graphics card driver/program.
regards
cool will try that yes it's hooked to computer funny thing is though when i play blue rays with it my eyes don't bother me it's full HD monitor. has HDMI and DVI i'm using DVI as my nvidia drivers are kinda funky. With the HDMI it re sizes it to 720P when my monitors native is 1080P so haven't quit figured that one out. but the DVI works good. I only have the burning eyes when I'm surfing the internet or doing general things on the computer. so not sure is wired maybe it's the white backgrounds on forums as they are really bright. I went into Nvidias settings and seams i cant change it from there for some od reason so will look into monitors settings. thanks for help.

Try and work with the monitor first.
Changing the settings in your graphics panel will essentially limit your available colors, where as it won't in the monitor.
The Dell 24" at my office come out of the box at like 350cd/m of brightness, this deffinetly will hurt your eyes after a while. Default was 50, most of them are between 8-12 now to get the light down to 150cd/m at full white, this is a comfortable setting that I can look at for 8hrs +
OK my monitor setup factory is this Brightness 100,Contrast 70, Gamma is at 0 but looks like it is half in the middle. which one should i a just i tried contrast and then it looks to dang dark. but if i turn down bright black level goes up and my movies are to dang dark :(. I'm at a lost here should i just leave it factory and hope i get use to it.
It doesn't look like LG has a manual up for the monitor that I can find.
Often the brightness control doubles as the backlight control.
It sounds like turning the brightness down, and then adjust gamma to get the darks to be visible again might be your best compromise.
check this link sotti http://www.lge.com/support/manual.jsp select region north America select Canada select product monitor select you language and put in monitor model W2361V select the one with PF behind it. I hope this helps in figuring out how i can adjust it looks awesome with blue ray movies just wigs my eyes out with normal browsing and general computer work .
I'd try setting color to sRGB, sRGB usually specifies lower overall lumanance output.
Other than that turn brightness down and then turn gamma up, I think that will get what you want.
YOu may just be stuck as there is no backlight control.
Another option may be to turn down the RGB drive controls on the color page (all at 10 instead of 50).
i think your right I'm stuck lol oh well i will just have to get use to it in time. thanks of your help.

Did you try playing with the gamma?
yeah i did i bought a new DVI-D cable seamed to make it a little better. i wonder if i should use HDMI my video card has HDMI on it will it make any difference.

I'm highly skeptical that a different DVI-D made any difference and HDMI should be exactly the same.
i took the monitor back and exchanged it for a new one same model and what a difference i think the other monitor was bad.
