View Full Version : HD DVDR and evo editing questions
baker99uk 06-23-09, 07:47 PM Before I start yes I have read most of the HD DVD authoring posts in the sticky, and can successfully burn MPEG 2 HD content to standard DVD'S which play in my EP30 fine at 1080p.
My first question regards HD DVDR media, will they play in an EP30? I have tried burning the same mpeg 2 content that works on DVDR to HD DVDR but my player just says it is not a DVD, I have tried 2 different brands of media and used nero to burn on automatic and UDF 2.5 settings with physical partition.
Secondly I have created an h.264 HD DVD image using MF6, I had to patch the 264 file from 23.976 to 29 fps, but now I have no idea what tool to use to patch the EVO file back to 23.976 fps, for mpeg 2 files I could use HD Patch but that wont work for EVO'S containing h.264 content.
I'd appreciate any help you experts could give me.
segaklon 06-24-09, 07:34 AM Hi, I record my movies in HD DVD-R with NeroVision, I recommend that you install the nero 8.3.13.0, I what I do is for me the movie in under HDrip NeroVision and then with the transition to HD DVD-video content MPG2 and 5.1 sound, I usually hold 15GB discs except for some movies whose duration is more than 2:10 so that the transition to an HD DVD-R DL 30GB.

baker99uk 06-24-09, 04:50 PM Hi segaklon, do you use an EP30 player, or one of the earlier models? And what brand of media are you using? Thanks for the tip I'll try nero vision.
segaklon 06-25-09, 11:58 AM I have a Toshiba HD-E1, but also works on my recorder and SD-L902A SD-L912A So I do not think you have any problems, many brands use the disks all work fine.
-Verbatim HD DVD-R SL and DL 15GB/30GB
-Imation HD DVD-R SL 15GB
-Datawrite HD DVD-R SL 15GB
-Ridisc HD DVD-R SL 15GB
Etc...
Indeed, using the recorder?
greetings
baker99uk 06-25-09, 04:58 PM Thanks I will let nero transcode overnight and then burn, I am using an SD-L902A so hopefully it will work on my Datawrite disk.
segaklon 06-26-09, 08:13 AM Hello, you need to encode the movie when the disk directly to serious, that if you create the folder and then trying to burn an HD DVD using NTFS data not you going to work.
encode and burn the hitch.
The Nero Vision gives you that option.
greetings
baker99uk 06-26-09, 03:48 PM segaklon, thanks for the tips, unfortunately it still didn't work on my EP30, I let nerovision do everything including burn, from what I have managed to find on the internet it seems the original Toshiba drives like the X1 work with HD DVDR media, but the newer drives don't :( I'll try and find my XBox 360 HD drive and see if they work on that.
baker99uk 06-26-09, 05:37 PM Well one played in the xbox and one displayed the menu screen but wouldn't play the film, so it looks like the EP30 can't play recordable HD DVD, unless there is some way of tricking it by changing the booktype.
segaklon 06-27-09, 03:01 AM Hello, I miss you a little video for you to do well and I accounts.

baker99uk 06-27-09, 06:26 PM Thank you very much for the video, I will try again using the exact method that you showed.
baker99uk 07-01-09, 07:41 PM Thank you, my burned HD DVD now works perfectly in my xbox 360, the EP-30 will not read it though, so it is most likely a hardware issue that stops it recognising HD DVDR media.
segaklon 07-02-09, 03:14 AM I'm glad it works for you, which firmware you have on the EP-30?
baker99uk 07-04-09, 05:55 PM Version 4.0, it didn't work with an earlier firmware either so I updated to 4.0.
