Despite a strong chart showing in its first two weeks of release, EA Sports' NCAA Football 10 drops out of Amazon's top five in the United States this week.

In its place are Gears of War 2 and the Game of the Year edition of Call of Duty 4 -- two titles that have rapidly moved up the charts following recent drops in price. UFC 2009 and Red Faction: Guerrilla also see sales boosts this week, as Call of Duty: World at War climbs to fourth place.

Xbox 360's Top 5 Year To Date

Capcom's Resident Evil 5 tops the list on Microsoft's console, and its sales are known to be in excess of a million units, including the collector's edition. THQ's UFC 2009 Undisputed ranks second on the Xbox 360 in 2009, with known sales of 1.03 million units in its two months on the market.

Activision Blizzard's Call of Duty: World at War takes #3 on the YTD chart, although its sales are difficult to estimate given its rankings this year and the fact that a collector's edition of the game is available.

The last two games, Microsoft's Halo Wars and Capcom's Street Fighter IV we estimate both have sales of 500,000 to 700,000, but again the situation is complicated by the existence of collector's editions.

Total software sales in the U.S. were $625.79 million, down from the $875.75 million in games people bought in June 2008.

U.S. consumers liked what they saw in Activision's Prototype (http://kotaku.com/tag/prototype/) making the open world action game June's bestselling title by an impressive margin. Last month, its single-console sales doubled those of the game it was often compared to, Infamous.

The same was true for THQ's UFC 2009 Undisputed, which topped U.S. game sales in May (http://kotaku.com/5287490/ufc-2009-is-mays-undisputed-bestseller). The mixed martial arts title moved another 338,300 units on the Xbox 360, KO-ing its competition, EA's Fight Night Round 4. But give credit to Sucker Punch's Infamous, though. The PlayStation 3 game's second month sales were better than its first, giving it a top ten showing.

EA Sports Active managed to outsell Wii Fit in its second month on the U.S. market, a win for the third-party publisher. EA also scored a Wii hit with Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10, which landed in fourth place. Also debuting strongly in the NPD top ten for June was THQ's Red Faction: Guerrilla, with the Xbox 360 version selling just shy of 200,000 units.

the big thing to take away from this note is its showing to be released on August 8th. does that mean the XBL and PSN version wont be released till then? maybe or maybe not. it could be like retail packaging for that game just for the gift giving season of christmas. at least thats my thought.

$15 for TMNT? Even redone the game itself does not warrant that kind of price. Neither does MvC. (And they did not even bother to redo the graphics!)

The only $15 games I see in my future are BF:1943 and Shadow Complex.

The move from 5/10 to 10/15 has put a huge drop in my XBLA adoption rate. With so many great titles available for $17.99 to 19.99 at gamestop/gamefly (and sometimes even lower) I just see no reason to pay $15 for most XBLA games.

along with it is news that microsoft is allowing indie game developers the option to price their wares as low as $1.00/80 MS points! the bare min they used to charge was $2.50/200 MS points.

^there is always 2 sides to a coin.
the flip side of the $1 possible price is the addition of several other pricing tiers. so far only the limits are known. $1 is the minimum and $5 is the maximum. the in-betweens are not printed to the public yet, but i did some diggin around at the revised XNA creators club web site and it looks like the pricing moves in $.50/40 MS points increments.
i'll do more digging around and post a $1 indie games list. that'll take awhile but it'll be a good list to have. i may go bonkers and just do a complete list of all available indie releases.:p
the other good bit of info is that indie games can now automatically receive title updates akin to how arcade and retail games download updates when you play/insert the discs. before you had to download it again. weird.
