I have an older sub, that I still love, that only has an on and off switch in the back.

Currently I have it plugged into the back of my receiver, and the outlet in the back of the receiver is switched.

But I'm starting to think that having a sub plugged into my receiver is not smart.

So I'm going to plug it in to a surge protector, and just leave it on.

But I was wondering how much power that will waste, when my receiver is off.

Yeah, the outlet in the back of the receiver is not meant for subs. Do you have a switched outlet to plug it into? If not they make smart surge protectors that can be used that will turn the sub on when you turn on the receiver.

You would need to post the model of your sub for anybody to guess, the company website should have idle usage listed as well.

Don't use the AVRs outlet. They aren't rated high enough for the sub when in operation. As far as the draw of your sub when not in use, would need to know the specific model but you could contact the company or check the owners manual if available and get that information. It shouldn't be that much, probably the same or not much more than any other electronics in stand by mode. You could just leave it in the on position and forget about it, many do this.

Could you post a link or two of some of these, thanx!
