seems like the september/october there will be a price drop of sorts
arstechnica.com is reporting a rumor that the arcade units' msrp will remain the same yet the pro version (60gb) will be dropped completely. the elite will takes its place and its price point at $300. sounds like good times ahead.
same rumor is also showing a ps3 price drop (presumably $100) so the xbox price drops may have some credibility

Uh, umm, so what about the 60g version? I assume that is what you meant (not 20g)? Maybe they will release a new larger HDD as the top tier?

Not really that effective for those who already have a 360... I could see if you didn't have one.

Regardless, thanks for the info.

Sounds like the smart way to go.. 2 versions make the choice even more simple for the consumer. Either get the basic or full featured 360.. both a decent price points.

Considering 120gig harddrives are probably as cheap or cheaper than 60gig harddrives.. MS saves bucks and the consumer gets more value for their money.

most likely the elite will be what reg gamers buy. all that would be needed are bigger hard drives for the upcoming downloadable games. leads some more credibility to the 1GB HDD's.

I think this is a good idea except they really should keep the pro model around and drop it into the 249 price point.

199 Arcade
249 Pro
299 Elite

199 Arcade
249 Pro
299 Elite

If it is really an Elite Bundle (and not just a Pro with a Bigger drive) there would be no point in hitting $249 because the HDMI cable + dongle costs $50.
An easier fix is to drop the price on the Arcade a tad, say $180, and drop the 60GB drive to $80.

The other part of the story is the bundles they will use to move out the last Pros. There could be some deals there.

^exactly. the pro bundles they will use to clear out that inventory should be redonkulous.
maybe in taking out he white colored pro they can offer the elites in either black or white colors? just to give a slight choice to the consumer

Weren't they just saying not too long ago that the Elite was being phased out, and would only be used for limited edition theme consoles? Makes more sense to me to just slap a 120 on the Pro, and sell the Elite with a 250 or 320.

^yes they did. an elite is basically a pro with bigger hdd and black in color. likewise an elite is a black colored pro with smaller hdd.
too much redundency. merge both of them, get rid of 1 SKU.
the more i think about this, the more i think they'll keep the arcade white in color while keeping the elite black in color. 2 skus instead of 3.
now the hdd you know people will need bigger ones! so my bet is they'll offer that insane 1TB, but also smaller versions. at they're price point of the 120gb a 1TB hdd would cost something like $700 alone. so we may see hdd's drop in price at the same time new sizes are announced.

While I like the idea of the price drop I don't like the idea of loosing the premium console. The color of the Elite is lame as hell. If it was actually black I wouldn't care but charcoal gray? Blah. They should offer the Elite in white as well.

I'm the other way around. I have no use for a white console. It just doesn't go with any other equipment in the house. Goes great in my kitchen though....oh no wait, all that is black and stainless steel too......so the laundry room, yeah, it'll go great there with my ....oh wait, they aren't white either anymore. Bathroom, yeah, my toilet and tub are white, it'll go great there.

Actually not bad considering the competition sells them for $100 with no dongle. To J6P that's a deal!!

Nearly every electronic retailer in Canada just finished a week of selling the Arcade for $149.00 CAD. Looks like the sale is over for the moment though--probably blowing out old stock. Now price is $199.00 CAD. Just FYI.

I agree...It doesn't match. I like the way it stands out from everything and doesn't blend in.

This is a good idea. Now I'll have more incenctive to just purchase a 2nd Elite instead of the Arcade.

One of the reasons why I bought the Elite. Problem solved.
If you have the dough for upgraded stainless steel appliances all throughout your house Im sure you can afford the Elite.

Options. Something MS has been really good about offering this time around. It may cost you more in the long run, but you can get exactly what you want.. or dont want.

I think thats what they were shooting for. Not to mention white signals "new" and/or "fresh".

Coming from original xbox to the 360, and going from black to white. It helped signify the change between the 2.
