I am building a DIY riser for my sub to tighten up the bass just a teensy bit more and keep the other people in the house from not feeling the bass from my "sub" when I play thumping house music.

I am using a thick slab of MDF that was once a shelf in an entertainment center that came apart. I just sprayed it with several coats of gloss black on top.

The thing I am having trouble with is wheather I should add some foam to the bottom or just put the legs on the bottom sans foam

foam will help to actually isolate it from the floor. i doubt raising it, and then using feet will really do much of anything.

i tried making my own "Subdude" and was unable to find dense enough foam anywhere locally. i ended up buying an Auralex GRAMMA instead.

I just put the slab on some temporary Hot glued wood strips to the bottom as temporary footing and listened to some music and watched a movie.

I was able to turn up the gain on the receiver and the subwoofer without making the sub sound funny at higher volumes on movies, like it did when it was on the floor.

And for music some of the brightness of the satelite speakers went away and the sattelites sounded more unified with the sub.

It seems that less sound is being absorded by the carpeted floor the sub was previously sitting on.

I am betting when I get the foam or whatever else I decide to use it will sound even better.
