but is tonight's BET awards going to be in HD??

If your provider gives you BET in HD, yes. And as I understand it from the AVS HD sticky, only Dish and Cablevision offer it at the moment in HD.

DirecTV has it now.

Considering the attention it is getting this year about Michael Jackson, it would be wise for Viacom to do a simulcast on Palladia in HD.

The free to view satellite broadcaster Freesat will be adding BET HD to its electronic programme guide (EPG).

This deal comes in time for the channel to show the 2009 BET Awards in HD and completely free to viewers.

Didn't realize till now DirecTV had BETHD. When did DirercTV add the channel? See the show is edited. Must have a delay. At least they're not placing beeps over the deleted words.

I haven't heard any lip-synching which is a rarity with awards shows these days. Keri Hilson looked and sounded great 'cause she kept . Ne-Yo hit a home run.

I had the same thoughts. Where were all the MJ songs? And why other than the beginning no video of Michael?

I'm very happy to finally see BET in HD. The show looked amazing and big props to the BET staff for incorporating so many Michel Jackson tribute elements in such a short time. I am also very glad to see that 100% of the show was HD, all graphics, even the backstage, the pre-show and the afterparty. BET came to the game late but they brought it to the fullest. I am looking forward to seeing what other of their programming is now being produced in HD, as I haven't watched the channel in some time.

And last, rest in peace the King of Pop, you are forever in our hearts!

This current "Real World" (Cancun?) and the last one (Brooklyn?) are HD. MTV HD is hit or miss with what's HD and not. The same is true for VH1. BET had two reality shows -- "Sunday Best" and "College Hill "in HD as well.

I rented the DVD of season 1 of a BET docu-reality show"Baldwin Hills (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1068898/)" (2007) and while it was letterboxed SD and probably shot on a Panasonic SDX-900 in 24p it was no Laguna Beach (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0426738/) and I missed the slick shooting style of that docu-soap/reality show.

"Sunday Best" was a competition-reality show about 'The search for America's next great Gospel Star'. I haven't seen it.

Now perhaps the next docu-reality/docu-soap show will be in HD on BET HD.

it is interesting to see people here that appreciated BET's 'tributes' to michael jackson during their annual awards presentation.

i never watch BET or MTV for that matter. but i thought i would tune in based because of the tributes.

the show was trash. the production, many of the performances and the feel of the show was unprofessional.

truly awful.

oh and i forgot to mention....

i don't see the appeal of those so called "reality shows" that they were promoting every 2 minutes. i realize that i am not the targeted demographic. but seriously who gives a crap about 'tiny & toya' and keisha cole's mother? and that gameshow premise is hilarious in a not funny way.

i stopped watching BET shortly after i finished college because of the terrible programming. i see not much has changed.

those episodes of the boondocks were right on point.

BET HD doesn't have a lot of coverage. However, D* and E* together make up nearly 25 million homes.

My fiance' and I rewatched this. She remarked on Tyra Banks' lacefront wig. Ooops. No wonder Tyra won't let "Top Model" or her talk show be shot in HD.
