View Full Version : The Myth zone B
For those of us who have a zone B player, beware of the recently released `The Myth'! I viewed 40 minutes of it today and it's seriously flawed.
First, about 25% of the time, the picture is elongated vertically. Second, lip synch. is not perfect and, finally, parts of the screen often appear anoumalously soft when compared to the center. To sum it up: unfortunately one to avoid.

Complaining about lip-sync in a Hong Kong movie,(even today), is like complaining about rubber suits in a Godzilla movie.
Oh, and I forgot to mention EE, which is slight, but definitely present in all shots. To be fair, EE looks like a minor flaw when compared to the vertical elongation...

+1
A lot of the actors in Hong Kong movies are/speak mandarin, and are later dubbed into Cantonese. And if we are talking older HK movies, ALL of the dialog is dubbed in post.
So there is nothing wrong with the release there ;)

Are you talking about the vertical elongation for shots of Jackie in ancient time? If yes, and if you have done some reading, you'd find out that it's done purposely, which is not a problem of the transfer.

Yeah, it looks like that on the Hong Kong DVD as well.

Only one to avoid if you can't play PAL material,(or don't like Jackie Chan).

Could you post a link where it is said the elongation was done on purpose?
Thanks.
